For those who went, what did you think of the arena?
This could always change some from games to game, but for now itâs Miller, Harwell, McCarty or Walker, Sakho coming off the bench.
I hope he is a difference-maker but Sharp will be our top dog who can shut down the best of the best.
It is bigger than Fertitta for sure but the black backdrop on the wall makes it look like a dungeon.
The seats were red so at least it made it feel like home.
It was basic, not designed specifically for basketball and there was a ton of space behind both hoops. Nice and new, probably cost a pretty penny⊠good for graduations/rodeo/concerts/public speaking events, but wonât be attracting any major events from Houston.
As for Miller, he had some defensive lapses and coach was on his butt. He didnât really impress me, but I think a realistic/optimistic view on his contributions this season will be for him to be a slightly used rotation piece.
Just an exhibition, but I was hoping to see more out of McCarty after he became a talking point this summer. Canât stress enough though, it was just one game and weâll learn more about the whole roster in the three games before heading to Birmingham.
.
How did the 6-11 C Sakho play?
UH had problems last year with their lack of height against Duke and Florida in the Final Four.
Since Cenac is a good shooter and is quick âŠDo you think he might play some Forward this year?
YouTube has highlights of this game.
Flemings looks really good! And Cenac was terrific in the second half.
Top scorer? Tugler, and he looked like he was barely trying.
We may have a First Team All American on our roster! And the Defensive Player of the Year. All the same guy.
Get back JoJo!
It was just selected highlights, but we seemed to push the offensive tempo more than we have in the past. At the very least, it seemed like we were trying to get the ball over half-court at a quicker clip.
He looked good to me. Played hard, protected the rim. Good foot work. He will contribute and do his job
I swear you can never give $harp his due creditâŠ
I like almost all your analysis but it seems like you just have something against his game.
That wasnât the problem last year⊠it was our guys with 7 footer wingspans getting into foul troubleâŠ
One thing I saw in that last group of highlights is Sharp doing a great job of finishing +1 shots at the basket. Thatâs one area where he should be better than LJ was.
This team shouldnât go through stretches where they canât find shots. They may not make them, but weâre going to run a bunch of guys out there who can go get shots, even when the offense doesnât create them.
With as much as Pesik posts, itâs easy to find something to disagree with but do you really think Eman is a better defender than Jojo?
The best thing about the place was the parking. Thereâs lots of it (pun intended), but they also charged $20 to park, so itâs also expensive considering the location.
Seats are uncomfortable and the sound system is so loud that whatâs being said is semi-inaudible.
But itâs still new (built in 2023) and clean, and I canât think of another reason why we would ever play there again.
It needs a second scoreboard/screen for stats, lineups on the court, fouls, etc.
I never realized how much I check the stats constantly until they arenât there.
Otherwise, a good experience.
And, being right next to the freeway, they move traffic out of there lickety split.
This thread was definitely typical Coogfans. Weâre worried about career 40%+ 3-point shooter missing shots in an October exhibition game? Very limited mention of holding a SEC team that made the NCAA tourney team, and should be again this season, to 18 points in the first half, and only 52for the game
I must have missed the mention of committing a whopping total of 9 turnovers for an October game, with a freshman PG having only 2. For comparison, Miss State with a veteran backcourt including a first-team All-SEC and potential POY candidate candidate, committed 16
On yes, there was some âconcernâ about our âbigsâ. We outrebounded this SEC team with our starting frontcourt of JoJo, who had gone thru a week of full-contact practice for the first time last week, along with a 18 year-old freshman
Oh well, some things never change
Thatâs not it at all⊠assuming Harwell will be better for awhile nowâŠ
We did?
We had problems containing their top player because Flagg is really good.
Btw their 7â2 first rd pick recorded ZERO rebounds and ZERO blocks. Not even sure scored.
Kelvin speaks about it around 2:05ish
