Could the Big 12 be having Buyer's Remorse?

Remember a lot of them wanted to stay at 11. They also could have stayed at 10 and kept expansion to a minimum.

That would have been very short-sighted. It’s good that they went for twelve. I think we were the best 4th team available but they’d have been better off expanding with Memphis or USF compared to staying at 11.

That they chose to go above the minimum was one of the first signs that the conference mentality had changed for the better.

I’d say we are there because the Big 12 makes it’s revenue selling TV rights. UH vs X Big 12 foe rights were among the best sets of rights available, so we were chosen.

A number of factors:

  1. Conference feared losing City of Houston altogether both in terms of TV and recruiting
  2. Tilman making phone calls
  3. Heavy commitment to facilities
  4. Competitively one of the best options available
  5. Regional interest
  6. Tilman making phone calls

cmon!! Hows their remorse about basketball?? We are only NUMBER ONE!

Having us in the big 12 right here in this city creates a buzz against the sec and if we weren’t in it, this whole region of 7 mil is an after thought for the big 12 presence.

We were a no brainer add despite ignorance of the big 12 teams being scared.

Big 12 wants a big city and if there’s a football or a basketball team involved it is a bonus. Money goes out to the SEC so to have a Big 12 school in Houston competes with the SEC (Honestly not that much of a competition). But to have a school coming in with the #1 ranked basketball team, all they have to be seeing is money. BIG 12 could run the game in basketball adding UH, considering their schools (Big 12) took home the last 2 championships.
'23 Big 12 schools in the current top 25 - Houston 1, Texas 2, Kansas 6, Baylor 12, TCU 24. Looks promising.

It’s still a big win for the big 12 to have games in Houston bc it makes the big12 more relevant in this region which is a must. It will hit the news media and paper vs being played in Waco. The big 12 would be irrelevant in this region if not for us.

Is the OP serious? BYU was already a P5 level program, UCF is consistently good and the largest school in the country, Cincinnati just went to the CFP and UH has history in both major sports, went 12-2 last year, won the Peach Bowl 7 years ago and has the current number 1 team in college basketball.

No new Big 12 team had a great football season but they all bring something to the table. There’s no reason for regret adding them.

as of right now, the other B12 schools will benefit from UH being in the conference. they will showcase their programs in a rich recruiting area while we linger in mediocrity.
