Cullen construction

Drove down Cullen today (Friday, Aug. 18) and there’s still tons of construction. Is going to be done by the first game? More importantly, what about TCU game, which is less than a month? Granted, there was a lot of activity with construction workers and concrete being poured. Here are some pics.

I was there last month and wondered the same thing. It doesn’t look like they are close to being finished either. I hope they can clean that up before the season.

taking a WHILE…

Glad we haven’t had rain for over a month. Imagine how much further they’d be behind

I though the plan was to have this done and looking Big 12 worthy by opening day?

This has been under construction for years!

Just like the Gulf Freeway always under construction

Never believe the initial time that construction will take. That’s one of the important rules of living in Houston.

It really is crazy how long this stretch of street has been a disaster!

One of the local comedians had a joke years ago…

In WWII, the allies leveled the entire country of Japan in 1945. Japan built the country back, with a little help from its friends, and according to statistics, has the 3rd largest GDP in 2022.

The Gulf Freeway opened in 1948. There is still construction on it…

Could be worse. Vandy is about to play without walls in their endzone

I noticed last week that a lot of construction equipment and barricades have been moved and there’s not much visible work going on. Seems like the plan was to hit the pause button for move-in. The section near the stadium is very close to completion, but obviously not completed. The part around Wheeler is really going to be a disaster for pedestrians because of actual sections of missing sidewalks. Lots of rip rap exposed.

On another note, there is construction on Spur 5 that prevents you from turning north onto Spur 5 from Wheeler. It’s going to suck for a lot of people that are used to that being a shorter way off campus.

take the rail

I was told a few weeks back they will have it ready for the start of school.
Honestly what you are showing is not tons of construction left. Mostly clearing obstacles and pouring the last bit of concrete for the project.

And laying a ton of sod!

This is disappointing and embarassing…they’ve had years to get everything ready for the first game in tne Big 12.

Looks amateurish…our campus needs to continue to upgrade to be P5 worthy…AAU worthy (which we are). Id like to see more landscaping and that elusive adjacent entertainment district we keep dreaming of!

Just saying…if visiting fan bases call us Cougar High…its on us and our lack of planning

That’s Sylvester’s people

If the street is completed and all that’s left is some landscape and hardscape then we’re literally talking about the last 2-5% of the project.

What am I missing? Project announced years ago. A Harris County
/City of Houston project with UH providing the finishing work and maintenance as the project completes. Not sure how this falls upon UH.

I can’t take the rail if I’m going to tailgate. I have a whole truck full of gear.
