Decades before Alabama, Nick Saban showed unflinching authority with the Oilers

Including this here because of one tidbit I didn’t know about that involves the Coogs. Great article if you were also an Oiler fan like I was and wanted to know about the craziness that was going on while Jerry Glanville coached the team:

Saban was not exclusively bellicose. He built his friendships off the field. He fished with University of Houston coach Jack Pardee at a lake. He played golf at the behest of Jones (“I don’t think he wanted anyone else to know he enjoyed playing golf”). He battled Brown at the facility’s racquetball courts, which offered anyone a clear view of Saban’s competitiveness.

Great read, thank you very much for posting.
I was like so many a huge Oilers fan. They broke everybody’s heart but apart from the 49ers this was for me the most entertaining NFL Team ever.
Saban’s intensity is what made him great in college but not so much in the pros. “How do you Coach these guys?” It sums up his personality. You think how his Dolphins experience went. Quite a few Coaches will never be successful in the N.F.L.
You always wonder what the Oilers could have done. I still think they could have been a 49ers type success. Let’s say Buddy Ryan and Saban would have teamed up…
