This was exactly the book on Donovan at Tech. If the first read isn’t open it’s always bad news.
Everyone says he’s a tremendous teammate and a smart guy. His dad’s a respected coach. Something just happens when the bullets start flying and his processor locks up.
It’s too bad the dude never landed somewhere that he could have the same offense two years in a row. Learning a new system, new reads and new terminology every year would be hard for anyone, much less a guy who played QB for only 1 year in high school.
The thing is, we’ve seen Donovan perform better. He wasn’t great last year, but he was clearly better than what we’re seeing this year. Yes, he had a deeper receiving corps last year, but he also did a better job of finding guys and making throws.
I need to see the Donovan Smith that moved the ball in the first drive against Oklahoma. I thought for a quick second UH might pull off an upset. That second ended too early.
We don’t even know what we have in Edwards either, he threw a total of 18 passes at Southern Miss last year, he was named a captain - can’t be any worse right?
He’s never been consistently good. The old version of him would make some good plays because he’d take risks. That also led to the turnovers. New version of him tries to limit the risk, which also limits the big plays.
Sure. But I’ve watched him stand back there with plenty of time and still make misreads and bad throws. The OL was terrible in the first game and has shown some improvement.
Based on what I saw on the TV coverage of the ISU game, UH receivers seemed awfully slow vs ISU. CWF should go see if we have a sprinter on the UH Track & Field roster.
It would be awesome if QB1 or QB2 had a light come on and they began to really do well. However, it seems apparent that’s not going to happen.
If the coaching staff doesn’t move on to QB3 after what we’ve all seen, then there’s some kind of agenda/politics/NIL favoritism going on that only hurts the team.
Would you run full speed knowing you will not get the ball? Remember they practice with these two guys. Smith and Chriss are the type of QB’s wide receivers hate.
