Duarte: New OC expected to be announced tomorrow

And I think it will happen quick. As soon as the target’s team has no more games left, it will be announced. That way we can hit the portal jungle.

Travis Bush is actually the Head Coach at UTRGV. They play their first season next Fall. He’s busy building an FCS program from the ground up.

I hope that isn’t the case. Good OCs are likely to have bowls or even CFP. Frits needs to bring his guy in earlier if he has him picked. Being late to the game probably hurt us last year and we are going to do it again? Sure hope not

All of you need to toggle your sarcasm detector setting to ‘on’.

That probably rules out Bush, but doesn’t hurt to call and gauge his interest.

I’m watching the Miami-Syracuse game. You think it’s too late to get Shannon Sawson back ?

OMG-I didn’t realize Shannon Dawson was still running Miami’s offense. What a complete indictment of Holgorsen.

Wonder when we start hearing about the candidates?

He does have Cam Ward

Signing day is Wednesday so I’m assuming then

Should we go with a g5 OC or a p4 QB coach/OL Coach and what about an NFL wanting to coach at the p4 level?
Why do I ask?
Remember Shurmur, the same Vikings/Case Keenum OC, UC’s OC.
We might find a Shurmur type coach.

If we can somehow snag unlv’s offensive coordinator Marion…watch out!

I hope we get someone Nagavi can’t stand working with so that takes care of itself without having to fire him. The OL situation is terrible and he’s been the bridge coach for all of it.

Sorry if he’s been mentioned already but Ben Arbuckle, the OC at Washington State is a good name to watch (and Utah wants him badly as well). He’s young - like 28 or so? But he’s a Texan (from the Panhandle) who started his college coaching career at HCU (and then Western Kentucky and now Washington State).

Plus, they have a solid sophomore QB (John Mateer - from the Dallas area) who has put up great stats this season both throwing and running the ball.

Again, I’m hearing the two could be a package deal but Utah is after both of them heavily as well.

To have a great OL, you need great players. If you can’t buy great players with NIL, which UH can’t, you’d better have an OL coach that he has a name and reputation for putting OL in the league. Given Nagavi’s connection to the Katy football program, his overall OL recruiting has been unacceptable. Find a dynamic, young OL coach who can recruit without a NIL. I would consider a OC/OL package deal if the terms were right.

Tough to make chicken salad out of chicken s****. Look at what he’s had to work with. Pretty much serviceable G5 guys and a couple of P4 backups. Yet run blocking improved over the course of the season, which wasn’t easy given that defenses pretty much knew we were running the ball.

On Wednesday we’re signing the best group of offensive tackles that we have in decades, including a four star. I can’t remember when we last signed a four star OT. Not sure that we ever have.
