I don’t have time to research it right now, but when was the last time a non-P5 player went first overall? And follow up, when was the last time a non-P5, non-QB went first overall?

First one that comes to mind is that OT from Central Michigan the Chiefs took. I think the dude is a bust by now.
Eric Fisher. 2013 Draft.

Yup OT from CMU, and prior to that it was another Ed way back in 1974, - Too Tall Jones, D-Line from the great Tennessee State.

And if we count QBs only three non-‘P5’ since the merged draft 50 years ago.
1970 - T. Bradshaw, La Tech
2002 - David Carr, Fresno
2005 - Alex Smith, Utah

Ed Oliver looking to be #6 on the list.

Love this:“Oliver is an incredibly athletic defensive tackle who really transcends the position.”

From the article:
A projected top-five pick, Oliver has been dominant against the run in his first two years, with a 94.7 grade in 2017 and 88.1 grade as a true freshman in 2016. Keep an eye on his pass-rushing as he must improve upon last year’s 80.9 grade in order to be worthy of a first-round selection.

Do they really think it’s possible that he isn’t a first round talent? smh

What a joke! It’s one thing to say him not being a top three or top five draft pick but to say worthy of the first round? So stupid.

They projected him as a top 5 pick and we are upset about them saying he needs to improve on pass rush? He works his butt off, and this can be extra motivation for him. When you talk about a top 5, esp. first overall pick you need to be as complete as possible.

They feel he needs to improve pass rush to be worthy of a top 5 pick, and I read the final statement regarding him dropping out of the first round as hyperbole for him dropping at all, due to their pass rush concerns.

"School: Houston | Year: Junior

Oliver is the top player on my list for the second straight year. He can play anywhere on the line, and has rare sideline-to-sideline range for a 300-pound interior player. He’s a difference maker who should garner Heisman consideration in 2018, but probably won’t get his proper due. Oliver has already stated that he intends to apply for early entry in the 2019 NFL Draft."

If the Browns have the first pick next year, this draft will have been a disaster.

Does this idiot know that the guys with the high pass rush numbers are supposed to be DE’s and not the guy being triple teamed in the middle? Yet, EO still gets through those double and triple teams to get his share. Meanwhile, while getting 2 or 3 guys blocking him, it opens the lanes for the DE’s, LB’s, and Safety Blitzes.
