Ed getting into it with his trainer after his trainer posted a picture of himself with 3 of his guys at UT:

To be fair, his trainer has brought all three of those guys through UH and posted their pictures and retweeted their tweets when they were here. He’s pretty fair across the board and just tries to get his guys out there.

Love that Ed is trying to get guys to Houston though.

Ed genuinely loves our University. He sees what we can offer and what we can be. He’s doing his part as we should all. Great mention on his part. You can have the college experience, the wins, and the future success here. Just work same way Ed and alot of Coogs before him.

1. ED OLIVER, DT, HOUSTON
We’ve been waiting to unequivocally say “Ed Oliver is the best player in the country” for two long years, ever since he sacked Baker Mayfield twice in the first game of the 2016 season and it was pointed out that that was a true freshman out there, terrorizing Oklahoma and its future Heisman winner on national television in his college debut. After two years of watching the 6’3", 290-pound former five-star recruit slice through offensive lines that spent all week worrying about containing him, swim through the backfield with the agility of a cornerback and rip down ballcarriers with one hand, it’s clear now that there’s no one else like Oliver in the country.

His 39.5 tackles for loss over two seasons (2017 included a knee injury that held Oliver back in a couple of games) can’t be chalked up to the quality of his regular competition. In fact, in one sense the AAC, with its abundance of quick-strike offenses and shifty playmakers, is the perfect setting to marvel at the way Oliver storms the pocket with no regard for who’s trying to block him, blowing up plays before they get off the ground.

His early-March announcement that he would declare for the 2019 NFL draft—before the 2018 draft had taken place—appropriately set the expectations for his junior season. Pull up his official player page on the Houston Athletics website here in mid-June and note that a UH sports information department staffer has helpfully listed no fewer than 54 honors bestowed upon him in the two years and change he has been a Cougar. Every p.r. flex has been deserved, and there will be more to come when the 2019 draft cycle begins in earnest and he finds himself on the short list for the No. 1 overall pick. But first, he has one last fall filled with superhuman highlights for college fans to enjoy.

Damn at the 17 second mark, he destroys three linemen and makes the tackle. The man is truly one of the best college players I’ve ever seen at any position.

#Heisman

Reminds me of Suh at Nebraska. I hope he gets help from the other front 7 so he isn’t double teamed as much.

Evaluators often look for comps for current prospect. Oliver reminds me of two different players. The first is former Chicago Bear All Pro Tommie Harris. Harris was about the same size as a collegian, with similar quickness and explosiveness. Harris lasted until the thirteenth selection in the first round because he had an arthritic knee, ultimately helping cut his career short. When healthy, Harris was the best 3-technique in football.

The other player Oliver reminds me of is current Ram and reigining Defensive Player of the Year Aaron Donald. Oliver has more size than Donald, but they have similar instincts and explosiveness. Right now, Donald may be the best interior defensive lineman in football, and Oliver has the natural talent to become a similar kind of player if he continues to work hard on his game.

As far as fit, Oliver is a natural 3-technique but he can play anywhere along the line in any defense. If a team with an odd front drafts him, there will be a period of adjustment but he will excel. If a club with a 4-man front drafts him, he could be a Pro Bowler very early in his career.

18 for '18: College football’s most freakish athletes

1. Ed Oliver, DT, Houston
Along with being arguably the best player in college football, Oliver brings downright scary athleticism to the interior of the Cougars’ defense. At 290 pounds, his vertical jump has improved to 36 inches, which would have tied him for second with fifth overall pick Bradley Chubb among 2018 NFL combine defensive linemen. He can broad jump 10-1, the same as safety Minkah Fitzpatrick, the Miami Dolphins’ first-round pick, performed at the combine. Add in Oliver’s freakish weight-room strength (650 squat, 405 bench press, 385 power clean), and the total package is an ultra-rare combination of physical gifts.

I don’t know how you block Ed Oliver.

I’m not sure anyone does.

Just glad that national media and NFL experts have alerted local Houston media to this so they can jump on board and praise and acclaim Ed endlessly now that they have the approval of the outside world to do so, which without they would either ignore Ed or make derisive low - ball comments about him
