ESPN brings national esports championship to Houston, a 'hotbed' for gaming

“Houston is a fantastic place to hold this kind of thing. We have the infrastructure already in place,” said Nicolas Johnson, the student president of Gaming and Esports at University of Houston. The championship event, which he’ll be attending, has garnered lots of attention on campus and with other students.

“It’s sort of a perfect storm that’s ready for this kind of growth,” Johnson said.

The three-day event, part of Comicpalooza at the George R. Brown Convention Center, will be livestreamed and broadcast later on ESPN channels.
