I remember taking my dad, brother, nephew and son to the “blackout” game against Temple last year. My brother looked at me at tip off with a “why did you make me wear black” look when the stands had about 300 in seats.
dumb.
Guess they’re hoping for a similar turnout that last year’s SMU game brought. Of course, they tied that into the Peach Bowl celebration…
Saturday game, ranked team, against a rival, hopefully the COOGS on a winning streak and we may get a more than half full arena. Wish they’d stop trying to do these types of promotions though.
Bring out the tarps! I hope for a good crowd (75% full) against SMU but I expect something closer to 40% to 50%. The 5 PM start is an odd time and unfortunately UH basketball is not on enough people’s radars. Add to it the last decent crowd was Memphis and we let that one slip away…oy vey! It’s hard to be a Coog. Let’s hope for the best and I look forward to the game and for Sampson’s club to close strong like last year.
I am hopeful that, although it is ECU, enough people will want to visit Hofheinz one last time during the regular season (just in case it is the last game there) to make the final game a decent crowd as well.
I don’t want them to stop trying. I appreciate the effort. It’s the alumni that’s the embarrassment.
And to say the Memphis game was the last decent attended games shows how far we’ve fallen. That game had a huge student section because there was a student organization competition that night. Take that away and I don’t see a big difference in that game vs any other.
This team deserves better.
I know that they’re trying to build enthusiasm for the game, but this is a little silly. Besides, it’s so yesterday.
Maybe get Coach on a few radio shows on a weekly basis. I know our football coach does a few on a regular basis in the fall.
This is why the new arena is only 7k. Smart and easier to fill it up.
is the crawfish boil just for students or can any ticket holder attend?
Not sure. Says it’s a student tailgate, but that would be something I’d hope they’d open to everyone.
SMU should be top 20 when they come to Hofheinz.
Looks like its only for students.
“Our heads are high,” Emolugu II said. “We’re feeling very confident. We’re feeling unbeatable.”
Note: SMU plays Tulane on Wednesday before coming to Hofheinz on Saturday.
That 3rd spot is huge. If the tourney started today, we’d play the winner of the Tulsa/South Florida game. The 4/5 spot play each other, so 1) a more difficult team and one that didn’t play the day before.
If we close out 3-2, we should hold that 3rd spot…same if we close out 4-1.
How do you guys see the rematch going with SMU?
