Update on our wonderful PA announcer : JP Stevenson!

He has accepted the role of gameday announcer for the Baltimore Ravens! A booming, and legendary voice for Cougar basketball over the years!

He will be missed, but great opportunity. PA announcers are underrated in generating energy and enthusiasm.

Time for another up-and-comer to take over.

That means he’ll be leading real fan Dan…

Great news for him, but we’ll miss his energy. Things fell down a notch or two when he wasn’t in the chair.

First of all congratulations to him. Great voice. Secondly, that seems like it’s the kind of job where he could still do the vast majority, if not all, of the Coogs’ home games at Fertitta Center. I mean, how any home games do the Ravens play. 8 or 9, and a couple of pre-season games, right?

He is actually going to still be doing Cougar basketball games! He will just commute to and from Baltimore for Ravens home games only!

Yassss

Side gig economy.

Same economy as Andre Ware for 20 years. Houston Texans and all over the country working college football games. 28 total games worth of gigs in only 2 cities sounds preferable to what Andre does. Wonder who’s paying him better between the 2.

Our PA announcer for football also does Astros games.

Not sure if he still does though.

Yes, Robert Ford. He has been dong Astros games since the dome days.

Ford took over for longtime Astrodome announcer J. Fred Duckett at Astros games. After Duckett retired in 1992, the Astros had Derrick Grubbs PA announce for a short time, and Robert Ford took over in 1994, and has been doing it ever since.

For UH, Ford took over for Jim Carola, who passed away in 2025. Both Ford and Carola are in the Texas Radio Hall of Fame. UH is very lucky to have such talented voices.

Maybe it’s time to be checking into any of the golf team interested in announcing. It worked out many years ago. At the time, I really enjoyed those games and missed that fantastic announcer.
