Finally a Hub Cap Guy Sighting

I am there to have fun - watching an incredible run by our basketball team. I find hubcap moron to be a distraction and poor visual for our fine university. I’ve made my point and will now move on. Re your other items:

Parking - orange lot - close, convenient, and with POs doing their jobs opening up intersections, easy to exit. Grade: A-
Food - Aramark - say no more. Grade: F (TSU’s outstanding options are noted on a different thread). If that constitutes bita*hing, then I plead guilty.
Arena - WOW, just WOW. This was the first game that I’ve been in town for and was awed by the entire facility. Hard to believe it’s the old Hof. Grade: A+++
Wi-fi - worked for me. Grade: A

Other:
Operations: I didn’t notice any glaring issues. If hubcap moron camps out in our aisle again, I’ll ask the ushers to move him along and give you a report. The halftime video maze game was weird. Grade: A-
Band - Fun, spirited, LOUD! Grade: A+
Students - Rowdy, spirited, LOUD! Grade: A+
LSU fans - Obnoxious (in a good way), loud, supportive, love their fan base. Grade: A- (the two LSU girls who sat behind us fled before game end and we didn’t get a chance to razz them - chickens!)

Overall, it was a blast of an evening. One of the top 10 UH bball games I’ve witnessed since 1959.

You got WiFi? I had no signal on AT&T or WiFi singals to join. I’m in 103.
#GoCoogs!

Hubcap Guy’s hubcap probably gave the wifi signal a boost for GTC. I’m sure that thing around his neck had some sort of antenna-like qualities.

Lighten up, Francis!

wifi worked great at Oregon gm I went to. Everything I heard that it is up tp par. May want to reset, power off/on next time.

Hub Cap Guy in the aisle near GenTwoCoog.

GenTwoCoog: “Get off my lawn!”

It’s all good…just joking GenTwoCoog. I get your point.

Go Coogs. Peace.

Yes, point taken and forwarded to our National Sales Department.

If he bugs/irritates you that much, be a man and tell your opinion to his face instead of complaining on here.

Right! you guys could fight it out. Just be sure to bring your own hubcap.

What an idea. At half time instead of all the silly free throw/whatnot shooting contests, we could have a HUB CAP TOSSING CONTEST. Sitting with Hub Cap Man could be grand prize.

IMHO, when you, Gen, start showing up in a tuxedo and top hat, then and only then, will I pay any attention to your rants. U of H is, after all, a University, a University of Diversity . . . . . Supposedly, one can express themselves verbally or visually (covered under 1st amendment, freedom of speech) @ any University . . . . . problem is, too many people want to shut down those they do not agree with . . . . .

If you have been watching UH BB since '59, you should remember “Guy’s gotta go” guy. He was an embarrassment but he managed to occupy a seat @ the Hof for several years . . . . . Hubcap guy is not a distraction and is not disrespectful, IMHO, but “Guy’s gotta go” guy was obnoxious, disrespectful and a major distraction during games. Never so glad to see him go . . . . .

Hmmm… that’s quite a lot to unpack. I very rarely post (even though I enjoy most of the information on this board) and, to my memory, have not engaged with others, but your responses are too tempting to pass up. Here goes:

IMHO, when you, Gen, start showing up in a tuxedo and top hat, then and only then, will I pay any attention to your rants.

  • I don’t consider expressing my opinion regarding Hub Cap Guy (HBG) a rant, but if you wish, I’ll concede that to you. In any event, by my calculation, it is a singular “rant”, not plural.

  • Feel free to ignore my input on this board. I certainly find a couple of frequent contributors objectionable and skip right past their posts. Your attention or inattention is of no consequence beyond having fun with these two posts.

U of H is, after all, a University,

  • Here we are in absolute agreement. Isn’t this self-evident?

a University of Diversity . . . . .

  • While UH touts the diverse background of its student body, I don’t understand why you choose to emphasize this. Nor do I understand why you capitalized Diversity. How does this have any bearing on the discussion regarding our university’s image? Perhaps you consider self-promoting, grill-wearing, hubcap-spinning narcissists with no apparent connection to our university part of a protected class. Please explain.

Supposedly, one can express themselves verbally or visually (covered under 1st amendment, freedom of speech) @ any University . . . . .

  • Again, we are in complete agreement. Please point out where I stated or implied that one cannot express themselves verbally or visually (covered under 1st amendment, freedom of speech).

problem is, too many people want to shut down those they do not agree with . . . . .

  • Expressing one’s opinion (see your point about the 1st amendment) does not equate to “shutting down” those that they disagree with. In fact, last time I checked, expressing one’s opinion is also “covered under 1st amendment, freedom of speech”.

If you have been watching UH BB since '59, you should remember “Guy’s gotta go” guy. He was an embarrassment but he managed to occupy a seat @ the Hof for several years . . . . .

  • Unfortunately (or perhaps fortunately) I don’t remember him.

Hubcap guy is not a distraction

  • Here we will have to agree to disagree. I (and I suspect most spectators) attend basketball games to watch……… basketball.

and is not disrespectful

  • Again, we will have to disagree. Here I’ll go out on a limb and attempt to project HCG’s motivation. In my opinion (get that, opinion), he is there to fulfill a need for personal gratification by shifting focus from the basketball game to himself. That is disrespectful to our team, our students, our band, our alumni (me and presumably you), and spectators in general.

IMHO, but “Guy’s gotta go” guy was obnoxious, disrespectful and a major distraction during games. Never so glad to see him go . . . . .

  • So…… let me get this right. Its ok for you to opine that ‘“Guy’s gotta go” guy was obnoxious, disrespectful and a major distraction’, but its not ok for others to find HCG similarly obnoxious, distracting, and disrespectful. There’s a word that describes this behavior. Starts with “H”.

I think some people need to lighten up. Seems a vocal minority want to attack anything unique to UH.

In fact I think this entire thread needs to lighten up. College fans can be fanatical and fun. Many schools have their colorful fans. Like this guy:

I don’t see how he’s hurting OSU’s image. Urban Meyer is doing that much more.

We’ve got a guy who’s been going to UH sporting events for years and cheers on the Coogs and here some of you are calling him an embarrassment?

Holy crap people. Take a look in the mirror.

He attends away football games as well and has an interesting UofH hat shaped like a cougar.

The “flag guy” with the interesting cougar hat is known as The Crazy Cougar. He had the same seats at the Hof so long that the University gave him the actual seats after the Hof closed. He also has season tickets to the football games.

If anybody has a problem with Hubcap Guy, I suggest they take it up with the Athletics Department, arena security or law enforcement. Complaining about him on this board is not going to keep him from coming to the games.

I’ve never been disturbed by his presence, and I don’t regard him as an “embarrassment.” Just my opinion.

Hubcap guy is fine. Please don’t waste the athletics department’s time by crying about this. They are understaffed and have more important things to spend their finite time on.
