First “Miracle on Ice” since 1980?

Definitely no miracle this time around.

Give it until the playoffs. Those games will have the same intensity and competitiveness as this morning’s contest.

I dunno.

First gold in 46 years.

Doesn’t happen often!

I was a kid in like 2nd grade when I saw us beat the USSR and Finland for the last one.

I guess the key difference is this was a team of stars vs. the plucky, young underdogs from back when. Today was historically significant, but it could become more commonplace.

It’s obviously not the easiest sport to get the youth into (especially in a place like Texas), but it is slowly gaining some popularity.

For the first time in Olympic history the men’s and women’s hockey teams from the same country won gold medals. As a bonus both US teams beat Canadian teams. As an added bonus both US teams won in overtime.

Thus, I think it is pretty cool and beneficial, that arguably the best player for the USA, Auston Matthews, grew up in Arizona and is hispanic.
