Folks need to chill out

Can’t really compare football and basketball, but if you want to do so, Sampson won 40% of his games in year 1. I’d say that’s a bad reference to point to unless you think this team realistically can win 5 games.

It’s a bad comparison anyways. And people continue to try and diminish the job Sampson did. I can tell you it wasn’t no damn 7 year rebuild.

I don’t know about all of that, but I considered Fritz a “winning” coach.

There’s really no reason to rehash the coaching search process or whatever. We could certainly have attracted a top-flight OC or DC with our head coaching job, but that wasn’t what our administration wanted.

Regardless of who we hired, I would have expected them to have the team ready to play in their first game. That didn’t happen, and here we are.

I kind of don’t care how “hard” the job is. We hired a guy to do it, and there were no surprises waiting for him. He didn’t do his job in Week 1. The next few weeks will tell us what kind of coach he is.

That about as ridiculous a response as I have ever read. The truth is that Nick Saban couldn’t win with the current talent on the UH team…and the next few weeks won’t really tell us much at all…other than to see what progress this UH team is capable of making.

This administration is lucky I’m not the president or AD, Holgorsen would have been gone at the end of 2022 and Sampson would have been gone at the end of the 2017 season.

People think a "rebuild " ONLY means depth.

No…we’ve been rebuilding for 10 years with a new stadium + indoor practice facility + largest coaching pool $$ in UH history + move to a Power Conference + construction of football operations building + suites TRYING to just gain consistency as a Football Program

THOSE should equal a competitive HOME OPENER game vs a G5 program with a fraction of our resources

I’ll say we had 3 ABOVE AVERAGE seasons over that 10 year span with one of those possibly an Illusion (15, 16, 21)

Whatever, dude.

And I didn’t even talk about WINNING. If Nick Saban showed up and didn’t have the team ready to stay on the field with UNLV, I’d have exactly the same opinion - he didn’t do his job.

Seeing the progress of the team tells you everything about the coach. If you think it doesn’t tell you anything, then you’re kind of lost.

people refuse to add nuance and have to be one side or another

multipel things can be true

one 1 side:

  • for people jumping ship: its crazy for anyone to be calling for him to be fired or judging his entire tenure for the UNLV game
  • johnson starting isnt that big of a deal or surprising, coach just has to have a willingness to pull him if he is struggling

on the other side:

  • for people saying this was expected - we expected to be beat by big 12 teams, not be getting blown out by UNLV… vegas projected us last in the big 12, but still had us favorites to beat UNLV . us sucking as much as we did was a shock, was a disappoint, stop pretending like it wasn’t
  • stop pretending like this is in anyway similar to Sampson, it isn’t - no transfer rules, Sampson was hired late, players weren’t available, and everyone transferred out …a true freshmen walkon was getting legitimate minutes (vanbeck), 3pt per leron barnes was starting… our 2nd best player hadnt played organized basketball in 2.5years prior to joining the team… our roster looked terrible…and exceeded expectations… in football player for player our roster looks way better than UNLVs on paper… from sampsons mouth;

image

  • also “3-4 years before evaluation.” isnt going to happen, context matters, he will start getting evaluated by mid point year 2… he doesnt have to have it figured out, but there has to be clear signs of progress… we will fire him end of year 2 and let the AD have his choice of Coach if we don’t see it improving, our fan support is on life support and our new AD wont tie himself to a ship he didnt pick

Fritz has never built a Power 4 program good luck with this one. I did not see any P4 schools knocking the door down to hire Fritz only dummies at UH. So you go cheap and you get what you pay for. 3 or 4 years Fritz is gone.

He was going to go to Georgia Tech but it fell through

Fritz will be successful. And these posts will be lost in time.

Sure but it wasn’t exactly a 1 year rebuild either. That would be extremely generous of CKS. Yes, getting to the NIT in year 2 was a good sign of progress but we weren’t really fully rebuilt until we got back to the NCAA tourney in year 4. Especially when some around here were getting real antsy with CKS around year 3 and 4.

Folks need to step back and breathe. Some of the posters here complaining about Fritz could be the same that sat on their azzes saying nothing while CDH was hitting Happy Hour? So stop it or get out your checkbook and do something about it. Just make sure the check is big enough to get somebody high up to listen to you. .

In Time.

100 years coming up and we can’t celebrate a national championship in any of our major sports for UH.

We were a top 50 team in the country by year 2. Samp had us rebuilt. Top 40 team in year 3. And then in the tourney year 4. A Jordan Poole buzzer beater away from being in the sweet 16 in year 4. A Tyler Herro missed jumper away from being in the Elite Eight in year 5. No tourney in year 6. Final four in year 7.

OK and? Nobody here would’ve been happy with CKS or anyone saying “we’ve been rebuilt” or “we’re back” based on being Top 50 and making the NIT in year 2. lol that’s delulu

Yeah, people are getting silly about how they define “rebuilt.” From where we were, just progressing up the postseason ladder meant we were rebuilt when you consider Sampson’s starting point.

He surpassed 40 years of basketball history by year 4-5, which obviously goes beyond a rebuild - he added on a guest house in addition to the rebuild. :slightly_smiling_face:

We are going to have to be patient. I’m confident in Fritz getting this done, but he and his staff are going to need time, especially if we want it done the right way.

Honestly fellow coogs, those still on the wagon, I am totally sick of coaches that “need time, be patient, rebuilding takes time, need better recruits, more amenities, etc.etc.” Its the same old story told a million times by these clowns that are making millions. Sock it away, few more years, invest in good market funds/stocks, buy that big house, plan that months long cruise and island vacation, and then of course say “they expected too much too soon, its only been 5 years plus 2 or 3” and hey, we went 4 and 8 last year, Katy and North Shore ain’t pansies. “'got to cut this short, my investment guru is calling”

You know you’re my buddy @den2010 … but that OL play was inexcusable.

Needs to be fixed… NOW.

The difference between CKS’s teams and what I saw from CWF’s players was that CKS’s team ALWAYS HAVE A SENSE OF URGENCY and CKS’s teams ALWAYS have executed basic portions of the game (in Willie’s case… missed blocking assignments/holding penalties/STs)

Sure… we understand about the talent gap but play the game with some heart and get basics right.
