Food stamps used for buying soda...and we pay for it

Not to distract from chemicals in our food discussion, but Monsanto made Roundup and company was purchased by Bayer in 2018.

Roundup, the branded herbicide containing glyphosate, was first released and sold commercially by Monsanto in 1974. Initially developed in the early 1970s, it was marketed for both residential and agricultural use as a non-selective, systemic weed killer. [1, 2, 3, 4, 5]

  • Discovery and Development: Although glyphosate was first synthesized in 1950 by a Swiss chemist as a potential pharmaceutical, its herbicidal properties were identified by Monsanto in 1970.

They also made roundup ready corn! It’s probably in that delicious Texas BBQ.

You’re welcome!

You countered your own argument. We all know these soda drinks produce future diabetics and obese individuals. Why not start with these? This is common sense. It makes absolutely no sense that individuals on food stamps can buy these.

Are there other things that they’re trying to ban like Jell-O or Ensure?

"Kennedy’s team is threatening to cut off federal funding for hospitals that serve items with too much added sugar, including Jell-O, fruit juice, Cheerios, and even Ensure protein shakes, the board wrote. "

All the while approving flavored vape nicotine products.

152 movie roles and 52 television credits.

I can claim to have been near greatness one morning at the Ponderosa Restaurant in Alpine, Texas. Harry Dean Stanton was having breakfast at the table next to us. Not sure who was more hungover, him or us.

Looking at his filmography, it must have been 1995. He was in the cast of Dead Man’s Walk, which was filmed all over the Big Bend region. I’ve never seen it (just finally saw Lonesome Dove in the past year).

Anyhow, I’m pretty sure I’m correct about his diet that morning. We were all drinking black coffee and smoking cigarettes and trying to sweat out the whiskey. (I don’t think the Ponderosa had a non-smoking section.)

I think he also has some music albums out.

There’s a blues bar in Santa Monica that he is a frequent guest performer. We were there for a UH game and. after being kicked out of a Hooters, we went there. Good music, no HDS.

I did get my hair cut by Dabney Coleman’s barber the next day.

We couldn’t have cokes in school. They would spill and make a mess. And probably the health thing.

HOWEVER, we did still have a smoking patio. Because North Carolina.

I was just talking to a guy at work about the one time I’ve been in the UH Law Center… took an exam there in the mid 90s.

Even at that time, despite being a smoker myself and smoking being everywhere, I was struck by the ashtrays built into every seat in the auditorium.

I was enthralled with the idea of smoking half a pack of cigarettes in my history class after that exam.

What year was that?

IIRC, we only had caffeine free in the coke machines in junior high. That was probably a good idea as I reflect on it. :joy:

I guess rootbeer, orange/grape/strawberry soda, and sprite were all caffine free. But generally when I think of something like “caffine free coke” we probably had to go to the teacher’s lounge to get it. I think they usually had Tab in there as well - not that any students wanted it.
