Former PAC 12 school travel schedules unsustainable?

Tech is non-AAU, and likewise won’t get an invite.

That’s why I say aTm is the logical choice IF (to use 1927’s terminology) the B1G really wanted a team in TX (which is a very DUBIOUS speculation).

That said, Tech’s brand, based on attendance and viewership, is BIGGER than UH’s.

I only point that out to show just how FAR FETCHED it is to say that UH would be a B1G target.

We offer NOTHING of value to the B1G that couldn’t be satisfied by LARGER and MORE VALUABLE brands in this state; ESPECIALLY by aTm, if the B1G truly wanted a TX team.

And if the P2 broke away to form their own league, then we are definitely out of the picture, because at that point, the breakaway super league would already have the state’s two biggest brands, and would have no need for any others, much less a dilutive brand like UH.

Don’t be so sure.

What if the B1G offered more money and more academic prestige?

Just sayin’!

That said, I find it dubious that the B1G is looking to add a TX school.

It doesn’t matter about TAMU.

Yes, if they were interested in leaving the SEC, they would be the first to join the Big Ten.

But are they leaving the SEC? No, they’re not.

And as I’ve repeated to you multiple times, UH would not be added solely for its brand. It’s more of an investment for the conference to get more Big Brands exposure in the south.

They already pay more and offer more prestige, yet they remain in the SEC.

Why did UT join the SEC? They’re the second most profitable brand behind Ohio State.

You think the Big Ten rejected UT? Hell no.

Clearly UT saw more value in the SEC than big Ten

There are already rumors to the contrary.

I think the problem some posters have is they look at geographical fits and say, that looks like a good fit or why wouldn’t you want to go to a conference with a bigger payday?

B1G schools are different. They’re already wealthy, They have academic history. They are proud of the comradery they share academically and athletically. Remember, university presidents vote on conference affiliations, not athletic directors.

I don’t ever see a school leaving the B1G. The SEC has had schools leave the conference before, e.g., Tulane and Georgia Tech. I can see schools leaving for the B1G, but not vice-versa.

As I said, that may change once they get sick again (as they got sick in the past) of playing second fiddle to UT.

Don’t count it out.

It’s UNlikely, as I said, but DON’T rule it out for the reasons I said.

I certainly don’t see Ohio State, Michigan, or Penn State leaving the B1G.

I can’t rule out the West Coast schools getting sick of the travel, OTOH. We’ll see how long this arrangement lasts.

I could be wrong. Maybe money will keep the West Coast schools in.

We are in the 4th (probably soon to be 3rd) largest city in the country lol

Yeah, so.

Temple is also located in a big city.

People need to get off that kick.

I can agree with that (the west coast schools.) I still have a hard time thinking of the west coast schools as B1G. Maybe the B1G needs to have some middle ground schools to help alleviate some of the travel and go to 2 team divisions or pods.

As much as I would love to see our cougars in the B1G, I just don’t see it happening. We just don’t have the pedigree needed. At least not yet.

Temple is in a city that is already Big Ten country

There’s no Big Ten presence in the south

When the breakaway comes, I suspect SEC and B1G designations will die. Whatever schools are invited to the breakaway party will restructure things. They will rebrand, I’d bet.

Those teams won’t need to “go” anywhere. They’ll be added into whatever divisional breakdown suits the overall objectives of the cartel.

I remember days after Cal and Stanford joined the ACC there was already talk of playing sports like softball and women’s volleyball at neutral sites to cut dowm on travel costs.

PAC 12 schools had the luxury of waking up 2 to 3 hours later than the rest of the country.
Now they know how we feel traveling out west.

Yeah and Dallas was one of the neutral sites being discussed

that’s terrible for the parents

TEXAS A&M IS IN THE SEC

Why in the world woudl they join the B1G.

They aren’t even in the discussion.

Let me rephrase the question…

IF the B1G wanted into Texas and IF UT and TAMU were off limits, they would have to pick 1 from the likes of Houston, TCU or Texas Tech…my stance that IF we continue to grow Academically and Athletically, UH will be the obvious pick ESPECIALLY is we show we canbecome another UCLA or UT or Washington type of Public University in a big city.

No way would Tech be in consideration. They’re in the middle of nowhere. It would be between UH and TCU.

Already asked and answered:

a) more money, AND

b) get out from under UT’s yoke, just like last time.

Pretty good reasons, eh?
