It’s an intriguing idea.
Not saying it’ll happen, just because FSU has clear P2 aspirations, but if it were a possibility, then I’d certainly hope that Tilman would write a check for UH’s share!

Anything that weakens the ACC is a good thing for us. Maybe if they are successful in leaving more will follow. Also, like someone else already mentioned, we need to try to bring them in our conference. We need to put some distance between our conference and the ACC and PAC.
no…they knew they were leaving anyway…eventually.
By adding new members they ensured the conference would remain intact and they would profit from them breaking the GOR.
Brilliant preemptive strike move!
This is why all FSU can do is YELL and CRY but have yet to take action!
Once this happens, ACC and PAC will be on the same level.
My whole point is…IT ACHIEVES NO SUCH THING.
It just makes the ACC “blue bloods” want to get out more…and all it would take is four of them getting out to result in the ACC receiving LESS profit, due to a renegotiated TV contract with LESS money.
As I said…NOT well played.
and the non-P2 ACC brands will get PAID for the blue bloods departure.
They are looking at this from a business standpoint…that was what the expansion was all about.
yes…the sooner they leave the MORE years of penalty they will have to pay until they reach the GOR expiration date of 2036.
That remains to be seen.
We’ll see how that GOR holds up in court…and in what type of settlement may result from negotiations.
UT and OU ended up not having to pay nearly as much as people thought to get out of the Big 12.
Don’t be surprised to see a repeat of just such a thing with the ACC blue bloods.
STAY TUNED!!!
We would only take 4. I would rather have Georgia Tech than Miami and no Duke.
I HATED seeing Memphis beat us all those 4 yrs.
And they had great success compared to us during that time.
I was envious as hell
UT and OU having to pay a year or two is a totally different ball game than the ACC which still has 13 YEARS LEFT in the GOR.
The PAC had ZERO years with no penalty!
This is why FSU has been ALL bark and no bite…they know they are screwed and the expansion move made it even harder for them.
Duke is a not a P3/4 program, where Football drives the ship, …they belong in the Big East a s a Basketball only school…along with Syracuse
We’ll see about that!
It appears that FSU is just about ready to make a dice roll to the contrary!
As they said in the Pee Wee Herman movie……EVERYTHING is negotiable!
In the end, the costs of litigation may make a settlement for way less more desirable for the ACC powers that be than dragging it out for years in court.
yes…they may have found outside investors to cover the crazy costs (which will go to the remaining ACC members btw) but this is still a very risky move.
We’ve yet to hear a single rumor that either the SEC or B1G has extended an invitation to them.
Looks like they may be trying to go independent first.
SMU will be laughing all the way to the bank!
Not really.
We don’t know what the ACC will get, or even if SMU will get a share of it.
Remember, they signed up for NO media money, and will be left in a way less valuable conference that might not even be regarded as a “power” conference once those schools depart.
It begins and ends with 130 million…you SERIOUSLY think they intend to pay that outrageously high GOR? If not, they better be ready to talk to ACC lawyers and that wont be fun…
No, they don’t.
And it appears that they may be willing to do such “talking” in front of a Judge and Jury, if necessary, to try and make sure that they don’t.
NO media money but they 100% will get THEIR share of the GOR penalty money since FSU’s departure (+ other Blue Bloods) will happen AFTER they signed their entry agreement.
SMU had to sign that GOR also.
Again, we don’t know what amount that will be (fearless prediction: way less than $130 million), and in any event, they’ll have to split that at least a dozen or so ways.
And then be left in a conference with a renegotiated TV deal worth even less money than now….with WAY less power prestige.
With the arrogance and entitlement attitude that the folks at FSU have, how long would they be happy with the Big12 before they would demand an even greater piece of the pie from the Big12 schools or threaten to leave to the SEC every other year or so? I think FSU is a bigger headache than any reward the Big12 could get out of it!
