Future Realignment Thread

You totally glossed over the fact that large schools IN Houston, Orlando, Cincinnati and Ft Worth were given a promotion into the Power Conferences from the G5

Im thought markets didn’t matter?

Those two are better off in the B1G. SEC already has tu, Gator and Vandy

ESPN made the decision to add Texas and OU to the Sec.

It’s their brands that got them in.

They were the best brands available. BYU as well.

Markets had nothing to do with it.

Yes Houston/Cincinnati/ UCFs “brand” of regular sell outs od 100,000 and national TV ratings got them in.

Nope…they were worthy G5 schools in big markets.

Nobody confused UCF for Notre Dame.

Also, I provided you an actual list of the last 6 B1G expansion picks…literally, 5 of the 6 sit in HUGE markets

No, they were simply the best G5 brands available, regardless of market.

Temple (Philly), Memphis, USF (Tampa), and Tulane (Nola) are/were in bigger markets than BYU (Provo).

Guess what?

BYU was a bigger and better football brand, so BYU got the call up over those smaller brands, despite their bigger markets.

Same for the other three. They were the biggest and best available G5 brands.

It’s all about brand size now Bro.

Don’t let anyone tell you any differently.

That’s why Wazzu and OrState may never be P4 again, and why Stanford and Cal, despite their market, had to join the weakest P4, at 1/4 shares, and had better hope it doesn’t come apart, because the other power conferences likely won’t be coming for them.

Only BYU and Oregon could be said are in “small markets”

The rest are right in the middle of mid to huge markets so STOP with this “markets dont matter BS”

And on Washington State and Oregon State…those are BIGGER brands than Houston, UCF, Cincinnati but their markets STINK!

They are stinky brands.

Check their 2023 attendance and all time success in football and men’s basketball.

Both WAY lower than UH.

Like Temple, which is a sucky brand despite its market, proving location in a big market is simply NOT the key.

As for markets……wake me up when any Bay Area FBS team is in a P3.

Why are you arguing with an individual that will never accept that another point of view than his might be right?

Yet they found P4 landing spots for schools in/near the Phoenix, Denver, Salt Lake City and San Francisco Bay area metros

Hmmm…

Fun to see him constantly flip flop on his arguments.

I’ve learned 2 things about lawyers.

  1. they are the least creative people on planet earth. They literally have no access to that side of their brain.

  2. when they are losing…their default is to change the rules on you. The court system is a prime example of this

Precisely because there were good enough brands that just COINCIDENTALLY happened to be located there.

It’s about the BRANDS……NOT markets.

You’re still stuck in 2012 thinking.

It is about the cool kids lunch table.

You said it Bro!

The coolest kids with the coolest brands, regardless of market, get to sit there.

Except for one uncool kid that bought its way in.

Enjoy

What do those 3 schools have to do with UNC and UVA

especially Vandy. What?

Academics.

Those two are better suited for the B1G. Clemson I’d say is better suited for the SEC.

If that were the case, then UT would have joined the Big Ten instead of the SEC

The SEC has great academic institutions. Alabama just happens to be such a big brand athletically that it skews the perception of the SEC.

UT, Florida, Vanderbilt, Georgia, Missouri, Texas A&M are all competitive academies institutions

UNC and UVA fit much better in the SEC just by being in the region. It doesn’t make sense for either school to have travel across the country just to play other academic institutions

The SEC already has U of South Carolina, so adding Clemson doesn’t even make any sense nor does the SEC want to add a school that expects to be a dominant football program

Clemson only cares about football. They are average at best in everything else including academics. If Clemson joins the SEC and they can’t continually win championships, then it’s a waste of money to dilute revenue to pay them

UNC and UVA are untapped markets for the SEC

Provo is part of the SLC media market which is a top 30 market. Provo is closer to SLC than Galveston is to Houston.

Provo is considered to be and is designated as a separate metro area (Provo-Orem) from the SLC metro though.

Utah would be the SLC metro’s team.
