It’s not going to do anything to UH’s brand. Nobody will care more because they happened to flip the channel on Friday and see UH. And it’s not like UH football isn’t already a known brand.
Think about this…
Games that are put on ESPN+, on a Saturday, are the games the networks view as the absolute worst games of the day.
Every time The University of Houston is placed on ESPN+, it is a declaration that we are not worthy even of being on the air,. And it’s not because they don’t have options for the Big 12 games.
There are multiple cable channels that are contracted to the Big 12 conference, they put the bottom of the barrel type of games on a streaming app.
ABC
FOX
ESPN
FS1
ESPN 2
ESPNU
FS2
ESPN+ App (Non Cable option)
I guess you guys forgot the Big 12 is getting off ESPN+ starting this Fall. Well most of those game will be off ESPN+.
Also FOX, CBS and CBS Sports are going to air a lot of Big 12 basketball games in addition to ESPN.
That’s good news.
TNT and TBS …to use a Cullen-ish technique: > ESPN+.
UH is put on those channels because they haven’t been good at football. In the AAC, they were on the better channels because they were good at football. Winning is what gets them back to being a featured team in a conference. Also, there are a lot of teams in this conference and this tv deal has to put them somewhere. So, of course, the lesser football team is relegated to espn+ more often than not. And honestly, do we want UH to be featured as a crappy team anyways?
For me
CW better than:
ESPN 2 / ESPNU / TNT/ TBS
all are better than ESPN+
I can watch CW at home, not the others. Not even ESPN.
I can watch the Coogs on any channels they are on. Home games I watch at Space City stadium (formerly TDECU).
I can watch the Coogs on any network that broadcasts them at my house.
Good, you two can buy me cable for sports and split the hundreds of dollars (thousand?) per year. I do not pay for cable or satellite TV.
Seems like a bad choice for spending money to watch a couple games a year.
Thus CW is better since I get it free over the air TV. I spend about $50 for an antennae 10 years ago. Seems like a much smarter use of money.
(PS other Houstonians also bypass cable bills and could watch the Coogs)
Just split the $70 month cost with 2 other people on YouTube TV like most people do.
Stupid, IMO, still to waste a few hundred dollars for just a couple games a year for me. Plus that does not cover anyone else besides 1 person’s ability to watch. Others also can watch in Houston on the CW.
OTA just has potential for more viewers than cable/streaming only channels. Why else does ABC, CBS, FOX dominant ratings so substantially over ESPN even if the same teams are playing.
I guess it depends how big of a priority watching the Coogs (or Frogs) is to you.
See for me, there is no higher priority, recreationally speaking, than watching UH football and basketball.
If I limited myself to only those few games shown on non-pay major networks……my recreation and leisure would greatly suffer.
In the end, it’s all a matter of how much of a super fan you are, and how badly you HAVE to see every game.
Yawn.
Where to start?
They were 13th out of 16 in football, 11th out of 16 in men’s basketball, and are currently 14th out of 14 in baseball.
Don’t make me laugh.
The B1G would be lowering its standards if it took those bottom feeders.
Anyway, Locked on Big 12 and Locked on Coogs both discussed adding Sacramento State.
They apparently have raised over $35 million for NIL, and have funding approved for a new stadium. They are apparently serious about making the jump to I-FBS.
I pay a ton of money to watch 6 home football games at TDECU and the Fertitta center. The money I spend on ESPN+ to watch a bunch of games each year is a pittance in comparison.
I have the sports package for Comcast cable and get all the sports channels of ESPN, Fox, CBS, Tru, etc. To me it’s worth it. Everyone has to determine what they think the value of things is to them.
Don’t trust anything Jim Williams says. He’s looking for clicks.
Also, that tweet is basically perfectly unverifiable. “This thing might happen, but also don’t be surprised if it doesn’t” is a non-statement.
The latest.
Its Canzano so who knows.

Shaq running their basketball now.
His son who was at TSU is there.
Mike Bibby the coach.
Started spending on players.
Brennan Marrion the UNLV OC is FB HC now.
Agree, it is a matter of priorities for each person.
If I end up watching 1 game a month on the youtube/cable channel then that is about $70 for the one game. Not a priority for me at that price to sit on my backside watching TV at home.
For me, I would rather be at a park and have the game on the radio for the money. But generally I have a lot lot of options in the fall for things to do on Saturdays - actually attending football games near the top.
