UC-Davis and South Dakota State are my guesses

UC Davis makes sense unless some bad blood happened as they were announced a member 14 months ago and then fall off

"Russell Wright, CEO of Collegiate Consulting, told CBS Sports the top-line takeaway of a $975 million economic impact over five years is a mischaracterization of the study they provided "

SAC to MAC $ impact did seem far fetched.

Not sure if this is the right place to put this, but the TV angle has been key in this topic.

But for those like me that follow the business side of sports, I believe this is the best outcome for XII fans. If the whole TNTSports side of things was spun off independently, no chance they would have the funding to be major players during our TV rights renewal. Now under the Ellisons combined w/ CBSSports, there is hope that Yormark’s collaborative efforts w/ TNT this go round pay off longer-term…

Great post NorCalCoog. Great outcome for the BIG12. i too was following this up closely. I never saw netflix as wanting to get into sports and especially the BIG12. The existing TNT/BIG12 relationship is major.

I am optimistic that ESPN/Fox/ TNT will be a great deal for Big 12 and provide good money and great coverage.

The ideal outcome Monte is for TNT to be our sole media partner that will rival espn and fox. This is why it is crucial for Yormark to convince fsu, clemson, miami and gt to join the BIG12. By doing so TNT gains a huge stronghold in the South Eastern media market. Again, this is about markets not about sports.

Just no.

The Big 12 would have no more 4+ million viewer games. Last I checked, TNT is not broadcast TV. The Big 12 needs a broadcast partner, not cable/streaming only.

Now if CBS got involved…

Actually if Skydance gets this deal TNT and CBS plus many other channels will be part of the family. This will be a major counter weight to disney/espn. It will be all good for us.

Did this go unnoticed?

Is this the very first time that a big10 or sec commissioner has come public with wanting to secede?

I get where they are saying but there is no need to actually cut any schools unless you are swapping BC/Wake/Cuse for Boise/ San Diego. Because if Big XII-ACC goes 24, the big boys will go as well. And there are currently 22 open spots between the 3 (big, big xii and SEC) if 24 is the goal and only 17 ACC schools. So in the Big 2+ Big XII rush to 24 land there is still a min 7 G5s that need to come up.

It’s been discussed on this board and rumored on podcast-land for a long time.

Probably wouldn’t be good for UH though.

Hope and wish against it.

F—k em’

Let them play each other….and they don’t get to be in March Madness….

I’m sure they’ll drum up lots of eyeballs  while playing for the mythical ā€œNarcissist A-hole Championshipā€ amongst the TEN of them every year.

Pollard you bring up the best point against ā€œcessationā€ that I have probably read ever. In case this happens this is where the ā€œlineā€ has to be drawn.
With all of the espn moves and realignments it has always been about money, not sports.

No this sec commissioner report just happened and he made it public. That is in itself new and it is only happening with what has happened with the WH sports round table.

breaking away from the NCAA at this point - does it really make much of a difference?
