Beginning with the 2014 college football season, the Football Writers Association of America (FWAA) and the National Football Foundation (NFF) have jointly conducted a weekly major-college football poll during the season, officially known as the FWAA-NFF Super 16 Poll.

The decision to conduct the new poll was announced in February 2014 at the conclusion of the 2013 season and the end of the Bowl Championship Series (BCS) era. Longtime partners since the formation of the two organizations in the 1940s, the FWAA and NFF voters rank the top 16 teams in the NCAA Football Bowl Subdivision. The results will be released by 11:30 a.m. ET each Sunday of the regular 2016 season, and the plans include a preseason poll on Thursday, Aug. 25. The first poll of the season will be released on Tuesday, Sept. 6, to account for the games that will be played on Labor Day. The final poll will be released Dec. 4, the day after the conference championship games. Each voter’s individual rankings will again be made public each week.
