You mean this guy shooting 2nd highest 3 point percentage in the country…
With NIL it’s hard to say… go in the league and sign a $2-3 million/year contract and probably ride the bench/G-League…
Or make millions starting in college…
It’s some of both, but I seriously would not be surprised at all by all 4
West Virginia pulled to within 51-48 with 12:15 left in the 2nd half and from that point on they only scored six more points.
Man, that’s depressing. Half the damn team!
Wow that pretty awesome
Good time to have signed our best class ever
If you’re Hunter Dickinson and you’ve hit your ceiling, sure you hang around in college.
If you believe in 4 years in the NBA that you will develop into a $10 million+ a year player, you leave as soon as you can to start the ticker on that rookie contract.
While CKS I amazing at development, going pro gives you over twice as many regular season games to develop in, plus Summer League.
There’s a balance b/w potential & going to too early where you flame out.
Im sure there’s some examples where players go early, get drafted late 1st round, and don’t receive a 2nd contract
Who does Jojo compare to in todays NBA?
Shooting 54% from FT
Jonathan Magbo, drafted early 2nd round with Toronto.
Averaged 14ppg at San Francisco in college.
3yr deal. But if you dont see significant time, whats that next contract gonna be. Maybe Jojo could be drafted by a team, that needs elite defense. But if hes no threat on O, he’ll be scouted that way
Rodman Jr
too early too tell:
id have it as:
Likely Gone:
JoJo
Possibly gone:
Uzan
Sharp
TA
GONE
LJ
Roberts
Francis
Wilson
Walker
stock rises and falls throughout the year: we end our season (including all tournaments) on like a 18 game national tv stretch… there is opportunities to play their way in or out of the draft
then potential transfers: were accepting that a lot of touted guys will accept multiple years of deep bench. ie guys like mccarthy are top 70 4stars
I wrote it already. He ought to spend time with Hakeem. If Hakeem still has his academy.
I get what you are saying, and you have said it a lot but I do still believe in growing through the college system. You are absolutely correct that the NBA drafts based on potential. It has gone to more and more to that style of evaluation. I do still believe there are a lot of show me prospects who can still develop and vastly improve their stocks. I see this very much as case by case scenarios but there is a lot to be said for some players progressing through the processes and learning to be an alpha before moving to the NBA. I actually think TA and JOJO fall into this category.
Before Jo Jo leaves, he has got to cut down on his silly fouls. He had at least two silly fouls against WV that had me shaking my head. I can’t, or don’t, want to imagine what Coach was thinking.
I agree, I do say it a lot. Its hard not to respond because I learned the mindset of the NBA analytical teams and I would like to share that knowledge because it helps keep our expectations in line and hopefully decrease any bad feelings when players go pro that aren’t finished products in our minds.
I think Jojo is a great example because he does not have any tools he hasn’t displayed already. Teams expect one to get better at things one will practice, but they don’t expect one to be able to significantly increase their athleticism, coordination, motor, etc. Thats what his stock is going to be based on unless he drastically changes something (like starts shooting 40% from 3 on high volume). His potential is pretty much set for what he would be drafted on, and this is how the NBA draft works. It works on potential, not actual current. If he actually thinks he could come back and demonstrate 40% on a high volume of 3s while maintaining his current defense, then I’m not going to argue against staying. If it only going to show some improvement in any stat or set of stats, then its not going to move his draft stock from where it already is. So dont get disappointed if he leaves.
JL’s comment is the perfect example of what he doesnt need to work on to increase his NBA draft stock. Sure they would rather have someone who can avoid fouls, but that potential doesnt really change in a year, the potential is already there.
So I will just look on the bright side if Tug and TA return and how that rotation would be ferociously scary.
I think Tug returning would step into J’Wan’s role and be a force in the paint. He would learn how to carry an offense.
I believe TA would become a go-to force with AA potential.
The key will be like Shead if Tugler gets a guaranteed deal. Not like a 2-way. Where he can get NBA reps.
(For the 2023–24 season, the two-way salary was $559,782)
These (3) dudes left college early. Drafted early 2nd round in 2022 draft. Haven’t really found their footing. Diabate is playing about 17 minutes per game for Hornets
I looked at a recent mock draft, and the first 22 players listed were either 1st or 2nd year out of HS. You rarely improve your draft status to top 20ish by staying a 3rd or 4th year. Yes you can improve from undrafted to 2nd round, or 2nd round to late 1st round. But top picks are almost always very young!
