Game 25: #6 Houston @ #13 Arizona (W 62-58)

It comes down to number of possessions and fouls. There is really no metric that indicates this game being in the 80s at the end of regulation. Arizona does rank 47th in possessions per game but Alabama ranks 1st and we didn’t get to 80 at the end of regulation in that game. We rank near the bottom in possessions per game and the law of averages point to the possessions being in the 69-70 range.

Arizona is ranked 188th in turnovers at 12.1pg. We force A LOT of turnovers, so you’re banking on Arizona scoring high 70s off 50-55 possessions where they get a shot off or get to the line. That is a high success rate.

I think this game is high 60s/low 70s at best. No way anyone gets to 80 unless it goes to OT.

The team will fly back Saturday and head back to Phoenix Monday evening.

This why you ignore Pearland on threads. It’s a broken record without any insight.

I find that hard to believe, that they’re flying back. My whole premis was on one, msybe 2 articles i read early in the Fall that the Conf was setting up tje Schd to mimimize long travel as much as possible. Esp in Olympic Sports of course but even for Basketball. You can look up n down the schd where they set up a Team on East coast to play consecutive gms on West side or 2d be Houston, Baylor etc. Like in WVU example ( played on Rd at CO, Hou) that i gave n know it happened bc they talked abt as game was starting n i had already heard they didn’t fly all way back to W.VA.

We shall see i guess, but it would go against what the Conf wants n did to help situation.

Edit: now i feel like i wasted my time reposting same baloney. You put a " like " to poster saying they are not coming back. :man_facepalming::ok_man:

I would prefer they stay and not fly back it makes no sense to fly home

They discussed the itinerary on GoCoogs CATS show after the Baylor game.

The combination of Saturday being an early tip (12PM MST) and late tip Tuesday night (7PM MST) was CKS’ reasoning for coming home to practice, watching ASU game tape, and flying back.

Hmmm. Got it, goes against the Commish wish. Oooh boy now we’ll have another discussion abt the Commish dressing down CKS bc he flew bk his Team btw Az gms.:rofl:.

Well the other teams are doing as it was set up. Coach is his own Boss.

That is your opinion. It might make sense to CKS, the staff, and the players to do it this way instead of staying in Tucson/Tempe Friday thru Wednesday.

This isn’t some back breaking quick turnaround. It’s an early Saturday game and late Tuesday game. Maybe the guys want to be here, maybe the staff wants to perform continued treatment on our ailing players at our facilities, maybe there is CKS wants to practice in our gym, or maybe Sunday is steak night for UHMBB players at nice steakhouse.

Was also mentioned that getting rehab for players back home played into it as well as nutrition (not having to cater meals on the road).

They’re still heading back Monday sometime regardless of what time gm is Tuesday. Still not convinced.

Edit: sure not doing for class time, as most of players take Online classes & ones that have on site class will be tough to go bc of Travel days being Friday & Monday.

It’s not a requirement from the B12; more of “hey, this is why we scheduled it this way so you can reduce travel if you want to.” It’s a soft recommendation; not a mandate.

Coogs fall deeper into the Red. :money_mouth_face:

Edit: we better get back to Basketball talk b4 we get in trouble .

Honest question. Why does the commissioner have any say in a team’s travel plans? It’s not like the conference is paying for any of it. If CKS wants to fly the team to NY Saturday night, then to Houston on Sunday, then back to Tempe on Tuesday, he should be able to do that. Am I missing something?

You’re missing the sarcasm only.

The Commish office set up Schd to mitigate hardship w Travel which includes expense. As being said how the Team decides to handle situation is up to them .

My bigger dread here will be…if we lose either game…will be how the executed travel plans caused the loss.

By default, I tend to assume staying in Az makes sense, but what do I know about being a D1 player on a cross-country road trip? Probably as much as any average fan. And humble enough to recognize a near-zero insight when compared to the team members.

These are young healthy men and I tend to believe the travel itinerary (barring no last-minute all-nighter surprises such as weather delays) is a minimal factor for them either way when this is basically their full-time job. I also trust the staff’s ability to read thier room better than we can…and plan it out just fine.

Some here already seem to think freaking jersey color is more of a root cause for a loss than crediting an opponent.

If you lose to Arizona but beat ASU, I don’t know how anyone can point to the travel plan as reason for losing the first game.

“They were thinking about that flight back, man. And…uhhh…it affected their focus…and stuff!”

Ha ha…I bet someone would find a way!

Go 1-1 on trip(s) n get ready for final 5 game stretch…

I mean 2-0 is accepted.

It’s really bonkers when you think about it. NBA does B2Bs often. Hell, Kevin McHale said they were on commercial flights sitting in coach when they traveled for B2Bs. He is 7’1”.
