Game 27: #8 Iowa State @ #5 Houston (W 68-59)

Taking a vote. My buddy and I are catching game day. We were thinking show up at 6 AM. Does that seem like overkill? I feel like we could get the free blue lot parking and be in line at 7 AM without any issues.

College GameDay doesn’t start until 9am… and FC will not be full at capacity, if you want to be on tv :tv: and it’s your personalized signs and looking :eyes: for prime seats behind announcing crew yes get there very early. However note that cameras will only point to one side behind announcers and the other three sides will have plenty of seating.

What I remember from last CGD (ucf game?) is that everyone was encouraged to seat in that ā€œsectionā€ and tv show had a full feel. Hoping I’m able to get another CGD shirt

Do it. You da man.

Good, the blue is a football thing. It has nothing to do with basketball.

As others have stated…

Some obviously agree with your claim that the blue is strictly a football thing… likely actually (indirectly) claiming it is a Houston Oiler thing. And admittedly, the Oilers color is likely the biggest slice of that pie even though it is not necessarily the only slice.

Others claim that it’s not strictly an Oiler thing, nor strictly even a football- only thing, but instead, it is actually a City of Houston thing (which includes - but is not as narrow as being - an Oiler only thing). There are at least some reasons to think of it that way (city’s choice of using that blue for non sports related things like police cars).

You might know all of that and still feel it should be viewed as a football only thing. But just pointing out, not everyone agrees with that limited scope. I suspect our differing ages can play a role in those differing perspective.

Of course…liking it - or not liking it - is definitely up for personal choice.

I appreciate your response. Why stop at blue? The Rockets and Astros have won multiple championships, they might want in on the color schemes for just any ol ’ sport.

I think that is a perfectly valid question… one worth asking.

I suppose one antidote filled reply would be of the following:

When did the City of Houston use rainbow Astros colors, or Rocket red and yellow for…

  • police squad cars
  • city logos
  • etc.?

Maybe they did. But I don’t think they did anywhere near the way that blue got repeatedly associated with the city of Houston.

Now to be clear… I’m fully open to your ideas too…to have a moment where other colors can be guested (as is now common in sports)…IF the marketing benefits bear the targeted fruit. But that’s just me.

I will say this…i know i won’t somehow forget we are scarlet and white even if the team guested green and pink stripes. I’m not opposed to generating interest if it’s a temporary shake up.

Blue is fine for everyone if all the players want to feel cool

Blue should be branded stuff and not off ones

I wanted a blue jordan jersey. Not the one they were selling. Will wait for it nexy year to spend 100.

Actually, I would have liked to have a special uniform this year based on the '94 and '95 Rockets. This is the 30th anniversary of the second championship.

Lots of Cougars involved with the Rockets at that time (playing and otherwise). And I understand we have an in with the owner where we could have gotten permission (a license) to use them.

Problem is, we probably would not have been licensed to sell Cougar/Rocket unis, so we didn’t bother. But that kind of uni. would have appealed to me.

I do miss those baby blue HPD caprices. Got many a traffic ticket from those bad boys in the late 90s

Fortunately, the team and coaches aren’t overlooking a tough Iowa State team and declaring UH as the conference champion already, as it seems on here by this ā€œnew Kansasā€ talk.

I am not so sure Iowa State isn’t the best team we have faced this year. Their slump was due to them being banged up but they are healthy now.

The last time we played them we sat our best players and they took us back behind the woodshed.

I honestly think if we played Auburn and Bama right now we would beat them. Iowa State…I don’t know, we will find out tomorrow.

Agree. It could even turn out that ISU ends up being the best team we face this entire season. And while we are currently on the top of the standings, there are no guarantees. We could drop this one…possibly hit a tailspin (like they did) and see them (or another team) pass us in the standings in short time.

Obviously, i hope none of that happens.

But, if it did go in a disappointing way, this ā€œnew Kansasā€ talk could only last a few more days for us, and end up belonging on someone else’s forum. To me, that is one reason it seems premature to be engraving our name onto that trophy. Think 1986 Rockets for a lesson to be learned there (certain to win several titles with the twin towers, right?). That kind of pain can keep you humble.

Just saying, I have a high amount of respect for ISU…especially when they are back to being healthy. I think they have only one loss when their big Euro played (and that was a closer-than-us loss to …
…Auburn!). I view them as legit contenders for the natty.

On the other hand, I do still have very high hopes for our Coogs this season. More than anytime since 1984. So hopeful to see it go our way tomorrow and beyond. STAY HUMBLE! Go Coogs!

Would love to hear CKS shut down all the ridiculous talk on here about us being the new Kansas. All this talk to me anyway is a bit premature. Let’s just win tomorrow against ISU and Monday night against TT and go from there and see where that leads us.

I doubt anyone truly thinks we are as storied a program as Kansas. But the meme is funny and I like it. Maybe someone will ptint it up for the show tomorrow. :joy:

I don’t care what they call us as long as it is ā€œChampsā€ at the end of the season!
