Game 35: SIU Edwardsville vs Houston; Thursday (W 78-40)

Every year people clamor out of the cracks in the floorboards to voice their hot takes about the tournament, and every year 99% of them barely make it past the first round. If anyone could predict how this tournament was going to play out, the bracket game wouldn’t be any fun to play.

Still it is better to be cautious. I don’t want to underestimate anybody this time of year.

I usually get 3 brackets pretty spot on and then one that is a total disaster. It happens every year.

SIUE- “So your saying there’s a chance!”

More bart Torvik love, this doesn’t mean much considering the last 3 seasons going into the tournament they’ve given us the best percentage chance to win

I’ve also been told that in order to win the NC they will have to score more than the opposing team in six separate games.

I can’t explain it but I feel like this year is different.

I am here for it.

They made the tournament. Great accomplishment for them now our real season starts. My preference is for J’Wan to heal as much as necessary. We have to have J’Wan at 100%. I can’t remember when we had so much multiple threats. Dating back to the 80’s it seems like. A fully healthy J’Wan is tremendous for us and terrible news for the opposition.

SIU Edwardsville can come into this game loose as a goose with nothing to lose. UH will make sure they are not anointed this year’s Cinderella team by a #16 knocking off a #1 seed.

I know plenty of folks who have us exiting in the second round.

They don’t/ can’t predict injuries, which have derailed us the previous 3 seasons

that would be more concerning if we didn’t have a team that’s been forced to be on their A game all season combined with every rotation player but tugler already knowing how it feels to have that 1 next to their name in the tournament

2023 was the year I thought we were going to win it

Final four was in Houston

Our best and most hyped team in years

Jarace walker
Jamal shead
Marcus Sasser
Tramon Mark
J’wan Roberts
Reggie Chaney
Ramon walker
Terrance arceneaux
Emmanuel sharp

That was the year I was sure we were going to win it, I will never get over Miami getting lucky AF and having the game of their life against us

Yeah I went to that one with the hope we could get there.

Houston wasn’t even ranked in the Top 12 of the Week 6 AP poll. We have no chance to win it all.

I went to the game in Kansas City. I’m sure that almost everyone reading this board watched it. Other than Sasser and Sharp being dinged up and hurt (but not injured enough not to play), Miami took it to us from start to finish! They had 3 guards play and shoot the lights out of the gym, and in part due to our injured guards, we did not have the depth to keep up with them that day. Fully healthy maybe it’s a different story, but there’s obviously no way to ever know. Also, we could not keep Norchad Omier off of the boards that day either. He was killing us in the low block. Unfortunately that day, Miami was the better team. It was beyond frustrating as that was the early game for the weekend. We were in for a penny, in for a pound on the weekend so to speak so we stuck around after being eliminated and watched the other games because our flight home didn’t leave until Monday. We did get to root against UT though when they went up against Miami in the Elite 8 game, and they lost so that was a minor saving grace.

I really thought the Final Four being in Houston put too pressure on the team from the get go that year. People were saying the stars had aligned for our Championship.
Where as this year we should have an advantage in San Antonio but nobody has been bringing that up yet

Seemed like anything Miami threw up went in from behind the arc.
