McCain was the guy we treated like a VIP when he came to Houston. Once he got an offer from Duke he dropped us like a hot potato.

I will just say that this game reminds me of the S16 against Syracuse few years back. I expect the same result. Book it. Like that year we won a close game against Rutgers.

Lurking on Duke forum, so far they havenât been too crazy. I think they(like seemingly everyone else) are leaning way hard on the ISU championship game on the winning strategy. Which they donât have the scheme to defensively be a problem like ISU.
But most seen to acknowledge theyâre going to need some ref help to combat the physicality. Because they are not a physical team, and if the officials arenât calling it tight they could be in trouble. Or they know their guards have to continue to be hot shooters.

I didnât like the kid but donât think he had anything negative to say about us. I really want us to beat Duke into submission though.

All the talk shows are picking Duke to beat us because of McCain.
Link to that Duke message board game thread . Some good insight posted so far in there. Donât know much about their team but Fliposki and McCain are prospective top 20 NBA picks if that matters. Last NBA level guys to knock out UH were Poole '19 and Washington '18. Donât think Miami had any pros last year.

Their offense reminds me a bit of the Nova team that beat us. The difference is they arenât the around the horn passing team that team was. They move and probe from the perimeter then pass back out.
It would be helpful if Francis stayed out of foul trouble the first half. This neutralizes Flopowski. Mccain will be wearing a scarlet and white jacket from the opening whistle. Expect him to get frustrated by halftime.
Expect their two big guys to try to foul Francis out in the first ten minutes. Sampson will pull evert rabbit out to suffocate McCain. From that point on its their other two guards against Shead, Sharp, and Cryer.
Roberts will need to be aggressive on offense. Post up and draw Flopper in then pass back out.
We need to beat Duke and hope NC state wins to have a pay back for 1983.

NC State has 3 good bigs. I honestly donât want to have to play them.
I think weâre 0-4 against NC State. The last time they hit a buzzer beater at the HOF when Drexler was the coach.

They might be unpleasantly surprised with how many fans weâll have. We also have a big intrinsic advantage. Our last ten games have been against better teams than Dukeâs. This team may be the most battle hardened squad in the country. I respect Duke. They are well coached and have smart players. They play their style with solid mechanics and execution. But even Mozart smashed his pianos on occasion. Our job is to frustrate them.
Someone said this Duke team kinda reminds them of Syracuse. I disagree. Duke is far more dangerous, IMO. It will be a great game. If I recall we were a 6.5-7.0 favorite over Syracuse. By gametime weâll be a 3-point favorite over Duke. Thatâs a one-possession game in Vegasâ eyes.

Baylor had Davion Mitchell who was a top 10 pick. Would also add that that Kentucky team also had Tyler Herro who went one spot behind Washington and was the bigger reason why we lost that game.

Thatâs the best video on our defense I have ever watched. And its not close. Although it was made pre-tuggler injury. Some insight I was not aware of. It was made by someone with a high level of understanding of defensive coaching and theory.
