GAMEDAY THREAD: Houston vs. Colorado | 36-20 FINAL

You underestimate your buddy Fritz!

Are we ahead of schedule or Colorado that bad? I think Colorado is bad, but we’re improving game by game. Not where we need to be yet but it’s a long season.

Fun fun game tonight. Texas Tech is gonna be REAL FUN.

I stayed for the Alma Mater, hit the rail back to Palm Center and was sitting at home rewatching the game less than 30 minutes after our victory formation. :man_shrugging:t3:

I recall when they were just a taco truck in the parking lot of the (then) Super KMart at Westheimer and Dunvale. That had to be 25 years ago or very close to it.

I haven’t been there in at least a decade but they’ve done well.

I damn near nailed it. Didn’t see anyone else come close to that score prediction…

I wasn’t implying you were saying that, Butch. I was joking about the Briles contingent that shows up the first half of every game.

We got some Twitter justice on the awful facemask call. Tom Fornelli (CBS) spoke out about it with plenty of responses in agreement. That was the worst call I’ve seen in years. You don’t look for a way to bail a team out of a blatant personal foul on the qb.

defense giving up 9.3 points a game through 3 games. i know its early in the yr but that will win you some ballgames.

The big turning point in the game in my mind was how UH came out in the second half. A clock eating 8+ minute drive that ended in a FG. That seemed to set the tone for the rest of the second half.

Solid Victory – Team is Finding Its Rhythm

A solid win, and you can see this team improving every game. Here are my key takeaways:

Offense – 14/20

I thought our offensive line responded well to the game plan. Execution was solid, though we still left the “door” open too often for Weigman to get hit.

What I loved most was how we exploited Buffalo’s inability to stop the run. Georgia Tech exposed Prime’s defense a few weeks ago, and Conner gave them a déjà vu nightmare. Tanner was used as a decoy for much of the game — and effectively.

I do think Colorado’s DC needs to take a long look in the mirror. You simply can’t allow that many yards against two Power Four opponents.

Our RB injuries had me worried going in, but the OC managed the rotation well and lightened the load on our depth chart. You could tell last week that our offense was purposely “hiding” some of its playbook. What we saw last night was the first glimpse of what’s coming.

This isn’t the Run and Shoot, but it’s also not the “boring” offense some fans accuse HCWF of running. This was smart, mismatch-driven football — and there’s a lot more we can do as the unit gels.

Conner keeps improving every game, and you can see how much fun he’s having out there. That energy is contagious for the whole team. I have no doubt we could have scored another 10 points if we wanted to, but HCWF knows the value of respecting opponents and keeping future matchups in mind. Fundamentals and focus are clearly the team’s mantra right now.

Defense – 14.5/20

Overall, a solid performance. I could have gone higher, but the second quarter raised some of the same questions we saw in the first two games. Staub wasn’t ready for prime time (pun intended), but he did find some holes in our secondary.

That said — we finally came up with some interceptions, which is huge for this defense’s confidence. Our DC clearly made some major adjustments ay half time. The Buff’s DC did not/could not and lost the chess game. The Cougar was on the prowl, and against a Buffalo with no horns, it wasn’t a fair fight.

Big Picture

The bye week comes at the perfect time. We need it — injuries are a major concern, and this roster is still in rebuilding mode. Let’s hope for quick recoveries across the board.

A quick note on Deion Sanders: love him or not, the man cares deeply about the game. That said, I’m not sure surrounding Colorado’s roster with countless Hall of Famers is the recipe they think it is. There’s almost a sense that their players thought this would be an “easy” win — and instead, they got slapped.

As for all the pundits who picked Colorado because they “have the better squad” — last night was a reminder that a live game is not a video game. Anything can happen, and we went out and earned respect.

Let’s build on it and keep worrying about ourselves.

How could I forget? Special shoutout to our Kicker. His impact was crucial to our victory.

A lot of the blame right now for Colorado fans is aimed at the coaching staff. Deon hires his friends, the OC and DC don’t know what they are doing, the team plays too soft, Deon should step aside and focus on his health issues.

I like Sanders and think he is good for the game, but he has only shown himself to be an average football coach.

defense deserves a better score, only one designed play, td run up the middle, beat them all night. seemed like only other success Colorado had was off script plays

Thank you for your comment and I respect your opinion. I do not see it that way. The Colorado offensive players were in position to execute. They were wide open but dropped balls numerous times. Our second quarter was great for game tape. Our defense is improving game after game. This is what matters. We have got to stay healthy.

I totally agree and it makes sense but only if (in my mind at least) I’m placing a hyphen between off and script. So it looks something like this:
Seemed like only other success Colorado had was off-script plays.

To be fair to folks arriving late and deciding to leave early, having this game at 6:30 on Friday is a much different logistical issue than a Saturday. I’m sure plenty of folks had to run home from work to change clothes or pick folks up and wrapping that game up at 10 makes for a long day, especially if kids are involved. Let’s not be so quick to bash our fellow Coogs.

What a fun and lovely night at the stadium.

The product on the field isn’t perfect. The area of the stadium I was in last night didn’t seem ready for the food and beverage demand.

All that said, it was great to see the stands fill out and feel the buzz in the stadium. I hope everyone gets more practice having 35,000+ in attendance.

Colorado moved the Ball when Carlos Allen was out.

Though not quite Ed Oliver this big man can play. Opponents have no Running Game when Allen is on the field.

By 2nd quarter, TDECU was packed. Most of the folks I saw leaving early were T-short Deion fans
