I kind of hold the opinion that the new CoogFans adopts every single stupid web trend that I hate – social media integration, depagination, the huge floating header, and especially email notifications for everything.

Also, I know y’all are planning on adopting a premium ad-free model, but I also have noticed y’all haven’t implemented HTTPS either. That should definitely be done if you’re accepting credit card info.

A few things:

  1. Of course HTTPS will be implemented for CCards.
  2. The email default was corrected within hours of launch and there is a bug fix in the pipeline for the checkbox bug on the preferences page. We have been fixing those effected early on who were getting slammed with email.
  3. Deployment of the new site had to be moved up 15 days because of Scout’s non-notification of their plug-pulling while we were in early beta.
  4. I develop this site on nights and weekends on a purely volunteer basis while still doing my day job. I don’t get paid a dime to work on this site. I am glad to do it, but keep that in mind when you are giving feedback.
  5. The feedback of the new site has been overwhelmingly positive, like, better than we could have hoped for.
  6. Like it or not it’s a social media world. Social media has played a huge part in the development of new fans for UH.
  7. Non-pagination provides way more usability on mobile and has less server overhead and uses far less data.
  8. The floating header allows for persistent navigation, again providing better usability.
  9. I respect your opinion and I realize not everything is going to be liked by everybody, but it’s not terribly helpful to basically call the new site and features “stupid” especially when the effort is volunteered. If you want to try and be less abrasive I’d take your feedback a lot more seriously.
