Greatest UH wide receiver?

Elmo Wright

You have to remember that Elmo was on teams that were predominately RUN oriented.

That is how great he was !!!

End of story !!

I remember seeing Elmo do his famous end zone dance. I was setting in the end zone where Elmo scored a TD and started his Dance …The crowd and me went wild. That was during the 69 Bluebonnet Bowl.

Thanks Captain Obvious!

If we are going to have a list then let’s get it right.

They were good, but not in contention for the best.

I treat the polls a couple of ways. First, to give my view on the best player of their position. Secondly, it gives me a chance to mention players that made an impact at UH. They may not rise to the level of best at UH, but where else can I mention 1976 All-SWC WR Eddie Foster? Think of it more as an appreciation post to a player from yesteryear, whose contributions to UH should be remembered.

You left off Elmo Wright. Elmo Wright was the NCAA leader at receiver and a consensus All American on a team that ran the ball. He went on to the NFL at Kansas City. This omission makes this poll irrelevant.

Can we all agree that Elmo Wright is the greatest UH WR and shut this topic down?

Best receiver I have seen at UH which goes back to early 80s.

1.Tank Dell
2. Many Hazzard
3. Patrick Edwards
4. Brandon Middleton
5. Donnie Avery
6. Orlando Iglesias
7. Marquez Stevenson
8. Jason Phillips
9. James Dixon
10. Vincent Marshall
11. Kimble Anders
12. Marcus Grant
13. Tyron Carrier

JMO, but Dell and Hazzard are too high and Carrier is way too low. Going back to the 1980s I would slot them somewhere in the 4-7 range.

I am comfortable with both of them being up there though would also be fine with a couple others being there.

Agree on Dell. Maybe there’s some recency bias, but that guy was one of the most talented receivers I have seen at UH. Just amazing burst and speed.

Did any of those guys ahead of Pat use a Covid yr?

Edwards had 43 in 48 games.
Wright had 34 in 31 games.
Hazard had 27 in 22 games.

I’ll take the guys with >1 TD per game.

Not denigrating Edwards, but career and season college stats are so skewed. That’s what makes Barry Sander’s season record so amazing. It was done in 11 games instead of 13-15 and doesn’t include 222 yards in their bowl.

We’re a school famous for great WRs…Lots of great ones just the last 20 years…Yall dont even list all the great Yeoman receivers…We have lots of talent now and will continue to produce great ones!

Edwards did play on teams loaded with multiple receivers to spread the wealth.

Patrick was almost in a prosthetic and came back and caught 4k yards in 3 years. AND HE HAD 20 TOUCHDOWNS IN HIS LAST SEASON.

Pat is my favorite and the best IMO.
