Happy Birthday John Jenkins

My comment was “they didn’t need to pay players” to recruit exceptionally well. They were penalized for small loans, giving free tickets, and loaning cars. But our coaches were handing out payments left and right. The investigator even showed that our coaches had no idea just how much they had given out and to whom. Texas also lost scholarships just as we did.

Yes and we got major sanctions for the same exact violiations.
MINOR sanctions for uta
MAJOR and DEATH PENALTY for others.
That is factual.

SMU deserved the death penalty. UH’s penalty wasn’t that severe. We lost 10 scholarships and couldn’t be on TV for a year or go to a bowl for two years. Texas lost five scholarships, but their infractions really weren’t as serious as ours. The NCAA director in the 80s went to McMurray College in Illinois, not UT. Whatever. You’re going to believe what you’re going to believe regardless of factual information, so no point in continuing this.

I gave you facts.
You keep ignoring facts.
Our penalties were not that severe…
I thought I heard everything…no I did not.
You clearly have an angle to this.
History repeats itself. uta has ruined every conference that they have been in.
Is the sec next?

UT’s infractions at the time were at least and in many cases more severe than ours, and the NCAA investigators knew it. The difference was that UT had a stealthier and more organized infustructure to carry out and conceal them, along with the network and influence to minimize what ended up on paper.

As far as Arkansas goes, I spoke to the AD there shortly after their departure to the SEC, and the reasoning he gave me was that “the slice of pie in the SWC was just to small to continue on”. Interpret that as you will.

. Okay.

samhouston1 and a very few others will never acknowledge that uta did whatever they wanted to do at the detriment of others. They will never admit that uta cheated as much or even more than smu and others. Their main goal has always been to control recruiting areas being greater Houston and the Dallas Metroplex. Understanding our giant potential was realized quickly after we won the SWC when we joined in 1976. They were furious, could not allow it and will never allow it again.
Well something historical has happened. Not since prior to 1975/76, our entry into the SWC uta has found itself in a position to not be able to control us. This is valid for smu too.
I will write it again. The only reason that uta left the BIG12 for the sec is due to the espn promise to uta that espn would kill the BIG12. uta never imagined, thought for a second that espn would not succeed and kill the BIG12. uta was 100% sure this would happen.
Prior to espn’s tentative BIG12 kill shot uta was “linked” to:
PAC
big10
and acc
Never was uta mentioned going to the sec. In fact it has been widely reported that uta always considered the sec as a bunch of hillbillys and that the sec did not deserve uta. This is not me writing this but is widely known. Their preferred landing spot, again widely reported was the PAC12. They considered the PAC as their academic equal.
They made it clear they despised the sec. The sec was beneath them.
We just landed a four stars after our five stars QB. This is not going to go well with uta. Count on it.
You think I am paranoid? You just have to look at history. I did not make up history. uta’s shaped it at the detriment of others.

I think you absolutely nailed it with that post. I share that same perspective.
