Today? Nagle.
Ask again after this season.
Instead of giving Jenks a chance to improve, we fired him and made the worst hire EVER with Kim Helton. In 3 years, he won 4 games and came close to killing the FB program. We finally fire him after 7 years and turn around and hire Dimel…3 more years of losing ugly…When Briles finally comes here 3 years later he told me things were so bad he absolutely HAD to win just to keep the football program alive. Some tough times back then.
Exactly, this administration was the worst in our existence. Adding to your excellent point staying put with Coach Jenkins we would have been out of the probation and having a full roster. Our administration was too busy trying to kill our football program than to build new sports infrastructures. A school located in Austin was licking their chops.
REALLY? Just asking, why? Thanks.
I am trying to understand your question? Please explain.
I doubt the run-n-shoot would translate well to today’s game, and I am all but certain it wouldn’t work with the way Fritz wants to play. Wouldn’t someone use that offense if it was still all that? And Nagle has been successful running the offense for Fritz. Tulane finished 19th in scoring and #9 in 2022.
I am all in for Coach Fritz to succeed but he has so far not been in the same league as Coach John Jenkins. Only one coach did better than Coach John Jenkins, in a power conference. Coach Bill yeoman did it once and another time as an independent. All other coaches did it in a G5 league.
Fritz won a cotton bowl. He may not have done it here yet but he’s had a lot more success than Jenkins as a HC.
As for Nagle or Jenkins, I’d much rather have the the OC that’s coached (successfully at that) in the last decade in 2025. If you could give the early 90s version of Jenkins with a more modern offense, I’d feel much differently. But he’s 73 and hasn’t coached in college in over 3 decades.
10-1 Coach Jenkins in a power Conference, while on probation and with a reduced roster. This is not even close.
Yeah, no. Winning a cotton bowl and finishing in the top 10 at frickin Tulane is much harder than going 10-1 at Houston and not even winning conference.
Not to mention Pardee went 9-2 the year before Jenkins did that. Jenkins was one game better. It was a really good season but you’re way overstating the accomplishment.
Fritz also won conference championships at other hard to win places and won 2 JUCO national championships. He’s far more accomplishments than Jenkins as a HC.
Exactly. I love Coach Jenkins…a lot. But 1 season does not make a program.
That being said, I do think he got railroaded out of here. I would have loved to seen how he matured and progressed as a head coach. Remember, Mike Leach wasn’t known for defense either, but he had some really good teams at TT.
You and others are missing the obvious.
How many HC’s could have accomplished a 10-1 season while on probation and a reduced roster? Mr. Pardee choose the Oilers. He knew what he was battling with uta and the ncaa.
You failed to mention that being on probation multiple and successive seasons usually destroys an entire squad. HC John Jenkins kept it together. That in itself is a tour de force.
You also failed to mention that HC John Jenkins lost Mr. Andre Ware and was replaced by David Klingler but HC John Jenkins and David Klingler did not miss a beat.
Some of you can lessen what HC John Jenkins did at UH. Whatever and clearly I won’t change your mind.
He was sacked by an horrible administration, probably the worst administration we ever had. What followed with Helton and others is the undeniable and destructive result that some could have clearly anticipate. We know what their aim was. Eliminate our football program. They almost succeeded.
HC John Jenkins was IMO right after Mr. Yeoman.
It was a really good season as I said. No one is disputing that. But to say that one really good season means Fritz isn’t in the same league as Jenkins is way off base.
You say I’m ignoring a lot as you ignore what Fritz overcame at Tulane.
HC Willy Fritz never had to face a long term probation and a reduced roster.
There is no way of telling how high a HC John Jenkins team could have done if:
Not on probation
Without a reduced roster.
Trying to compare HC John Jenkins and HC Willy Fritz is by definition not possible.
I want HC Willy Fritz to give us a 10-1 season. It has not happened yet. Let’s compare then.
What did HC Fritz had to overcome at Tulane? He did great but others did too.
You compared them first and now are telling me they can’t be compared by definition. Ok.
As for others that did great at Tulane, who? No one had won there in a couple of decades before him. Tulane had been a garbage program the entire century before Fritz.
I did not a poster brought it up. Read the thread.
Read the entire thread. Then you will comprehend that I was responding to posts. Got it?
By the way Bobby Bowden finished undeafeated and finished 7th. Shoukd they have been rated higher?
I was responding to you, no one else. Then you doubled down on your comparison before later telling me they couldn’t be compared by definition. Not sure why I need to check what others said.
And Bobby Bowden didn’t coach at Tulane.
