If this assumption is true, why is it happening?
There are poor people all over the metro that need health care and I believe could be better served in a part of the metro underserved.
Yep.
I get that it’s more convenient to put it in the middle of where doctors are already working, but that really shouldn’t be the deciding factor when it comes to facility placement. The public would be better served by opening one outside the Loop somewhere or at least outside the immediate Medical Center. I mean….
I suspect they really just saw some green space that they assumed would be free/cheap and decided that’s where to go.
It’ll be a lot harder to attract top talent if it’s placed outside the med center.
Are you kidding? Med Center land is the most expensive land in all of Houston. They are well aware of that.
Personal? Gaslighting again?
Am I kidding? No. They started the process just assuming they could take it and do what they wanted because it’s park land.
I don’t credit them with being well aware of the fact that the city’s ownership is based on a conditional grant that reverts.
In fact, if the land hasn’t been used as a park, there’s a good argument that ownership has already reverted and that the city doesn’t own an interest at all.

You don’t need “top talent” everywhere. Just get talent and make an attempt to serve the public instead of the medical establishment.
And I don’t buy the argument that a doctor won’t work at a Level 1 trauma center located 10-15 miles away from the Med Center because it’s outside the Med Center. My former neighbor near 1093 outside the Grand Parkway was a Med Center surgeon, so commuting was obviously not a problem.

One might could argue it would be advantageous to have a Level 1 trauma center
in other parts of the city to better deal with things, like say flooding. Having all the
Level 1 centers in small geographic area near a major bayou might not be wise.
you can’t close Cambridge,
Yeah, that was pointed out to me earlier and I agree. Having pedestrians crossing at grade a busy 4 lane road with high emergency traffic isn’t my idea of a connected park. Underground pedestrian tunnel connecting the park sections would be cool but probably very expensive.
If you looked at the link on the little grassy triangle, that was once a part of Hermann Park, but the city donated it to Daughters of the Republic of Texas way back when. Kinda funny.
Why do you think we only have 4(2 really) level 1 trauma centers in Houston? Because it’s expensive to staff and support. So much so that instead of building them all over Houston, they helicopter them instead. That’s cheaper to do than build another one. So no, building them all over Houston isn’t going to happen.

Taking on the “growing uninsured” assumption will probably get
us locked if discussion is allowed on that. Gutsy move !
See you later …as 3rdWardCoog3.
But hey, cats have 9 lives they say.

The Med Center has flooded before. Not just because of Braes Bayou, but subsidence in the area. Subsidence only goes one way and sometimes you can’t pump your way out of it.
Well history has shown the med center can be inundated with flooding.
And yes we have 4 level 1 trauma centers. Memorial Hermann, the busiest one,
operates LifeFlight, but I see no reason why equipment and specialist are cheaper
if in the Med Center. That doesn’t necessarily follow at all.
Note Dallas has 4-5 Level 1 Trauma centers and 4 of the 5 are in different
zip codes.

so commuting was obviously not a problem.
As long as the money is right.
Anyone who doesn’t see that calling somebody out by name makes a post personal is either an idiot or a troll.
WOW, now calling someone by their name is being a troll? This place must be full of trolls!

Actually it’s only really 2, Ben Taub and Memorial Hermann. Texas Children’s and the VA ones are specialized.
So 2 for the whole of Houston. And one is a government funded facility. Why do you think that is?
Reading comprehension is a terrible thing to waste.
Anyone who doesn’t see that calling somebody out by name
This you? It was a direct reply to your post. To your post. Is that a personal attack too?
No sir, as previously posted above.
Memorial Hermann-Texas Medical Center, Texas Children’s Hospital, Ben Taub Hospital, or Houston Methodist
Side note but related, Houston has 4 Level 1 Trauma centers.
In summary, Houston is fortunate to have multiple Level 1 Trauma Centers that provide a high level of specialized care to critically injured patients. These centers have the necessary resources, expertise, and infrastructure to handle a wide range of traumatic injuries. Whether it’s Memorial Hermann-Texas Medical Center, Texas Children’s Hospital, Ben Taub Hospital, or Houston Methodist Hospital, each facility plays a crucial role in saving lives and improving outcomes for trauma patients.
