Well hopefully Melton has a great spring and forces his way into the starting lineup.
He has the tools to be a strong ROY candidate.

Reading some of these comments, have you been watching the Astros for the last 8 years.
Also the Yankees have not won a title and basically only made to the world series once in that time despite the money they have spent.

I’ll believe Garcia and McCullers will pitch again when I see it. Add Javier to that too. Losing Garcia alone brought us down as a staff. But not having Javier is brutal.

But seriously, we have 4 top-end starters already set (based on last year, anyway).
We have several candidates to fill that 5th spot:
Verlander (could sign somewhere else, but I think the Astros will make it happen)
JP France (surgery last July - iffy to return)
Luis Garcia (maybe)
McCullers (less likely maybe)
Colton Gordon (really looked good in the minors)
Ryan Gusto (another strong AAA campaign last year)
AJ Blubaugh
It seems like this should be workable, assuming the bullpen is somewhat solid.

I’m hoping Whitley can be a 6th-7th inning guy….not many teams can run a bridge guy out there with his kind of stuff.
Gotta prove he can stay healthy.
Lance is not an option as a SP anymore….if he makes it back, it’s in the pen.
I was kinda down on Gordon’s season….coming off the WBC I thought he had some momentum going….

Yeah, I can’t say who it will be, but I think it’s unlikely that the Astros whiff on all 7 of those for the whole season.
I’m with you on McCullers - I hope they don’t continue trying to push him into the rotation, but…

Agree. Astros cannot afford to start the season with both Meyers and McCormick in the lineup. Hopefully Dana has a plan to remedy the situation.

Just for once (not really, it applies to college also), I’d like to see someone like Bregman (I actually like and respect Bregman) hold out and be left without a team to play on the next year. I get everyone is worthy of getting paid what they are worth, but so much money for playing a game has gotten ridiculous. It has gotten to where the average joe cannot afford to go to a game without financial assistance. (Sarcasm) Really would not mind seeing several pros and lots of college kids get left out.

That pretty much happened to Snell last season. But it didn’t make him poor or anything.
I wonder if the Astros have a pending offer still out to Bregman. I know rejected the QO, but there was some indication they had increased that.

I marvel at how guys chase money. I wouldn’t play a pro sport in Philly for all the money in the world. 81 games on the road and you have to come back to those hellions and call it home.lol
