Grichuk will never be considered because he hits from the right side. We’d rather pick up lefty .220 hitting non-outfielders to play OF.
But Grichuk is better against righties than either of those other guys, anyway.

He is actually from the Houston area….played his HS ball at Lamar Con. I think ( not 100%)….unless he hates Houston you would think it would be a plus….

Dana Brown is making it big deal… right or wrong. He went in front of media again this morning n said LH Bat is priority… so I thk that’s what they will look for. It’s slim picking in the Market.

I didnt call him dumb, I said his decision to not retain James Click was dumb.
I think him not waiting for new GM to come on board n hastily making some decisions w his 2 intern ( Bagwell & Jackson ) GM’s was not the best decision.

Click certainly did some nice things while he was here but from what my two friends who worked for the Astros said he had a really hard time playing with others. He also was out there bad mouthing the organization at the GM meetings.

It’s really dumb to just make roster decisions on this basis. Yeah, there’s some value in having a good mix of lefty bats in the lineup, but you have to apply some common sense.
Jorge Polanco hit .213 last year - .250 vs lefties, .198 vs righties (almost identical to Meyers)
Alex Verdugo hit .233 last year - .228 vs lefties, .235 vs righties
Grichuk hit .291 last year - .391 vs lefties, .242 vs righties
This shouldn’t be hard to figure out.

Stop with this nonsense about Bagwell + Jackson.
When they signed Abreu and Montero they were trying to repeat. They had a need at first. Abreu was a great fit for the Astros. His power #s in '22 were down a little but he was still driving the ball. Did he struggle much of '23? Yes. However he had some huge hits in Sept and in the postseason and if Framber doesn’t melt down in Game 2 of the ALCS the Astros more then likely go on to win the WS. If that happens would we be having this discussion? Who would’ve thought that he’d fall off the cliff the way he did in '24.
As for Montero. Sure he had been up and down from yr to yr but I think the biggest issue was giving three yrs instead of two. It didn’t work out. The pitching coaches wanted Montero back as did the interim ast GM at the time. Could argue that Abreu was starting to decline as well but he was one of THE most coveted FA that yr at a position the Astros needed to address.
The problem with Montero was not resigning him….but resigning him at the money he received.
He was grossly overpaid. Nobody else would have given him a contract anywhere near what he got.

Oh I agree they overpaid Montero.
The pen was so dominant that year (especially in the postseason) they wanted to try and run it back and were willing to overpay Montero in order to so. Can’t hit on every move and under Crane their success rate has been extremely good (especially looking at the run from '17 through '24).
Back to why this was even mentioned (Crane making dumb moves). Hard to blast a dude who has overseen one of the most historic runs in MLB history.
Pollard what are your thoughts on Arrighetti and Blanco this season? Have high expectations for Arrighetti and think he’ll take another huge step. Just hoping he’s more consistent throughout the season. Blanco can he repeat what he did last season?
