If that’s the case, then I wonder how they interact with that pitching staff in the clubhouse.
Whitley
I don’t know if I wasn’t clear or if you are just being snarky.
Nobody is walking up to anyone in the clubhouse and saying you suck….which is what you have some how taken from my post with your “ I wonder how they interact with the pitching staff in the clubhouse “ comment.
Of course they are supportive of guys that are struggling whether it’s a position player or pitchers.
No where in my post did I say anything about how they “interact” with struggling players in the clubhouse….but sure go ahead and spin it that way.
These guys are competitive and hate to lose….so whether it’s a pitcher or multiple pitchers or Abreau and Singleton they get frustrated……they don’t like watching a guy fail at the plate and not drive in runs over and over……nor do they like watching guys give up 9 runs in the first and then have to play 9innings of baseball knowing they have no shot win.
They don’t like watching the same guys blow up in the late innings over and over.
I’m not even sure what you are wanting to prove other than just to argue.
Pollard,
I simply disagree with you on this topic. I don’t see anywhere that I tried to “argue” with you. You just seem to have taken it personally. I replied to your post directed at me. You think Abreu is the main issue in their 6-11 record. I think it has mainly been the pitching. I don’t think the players are overreacting to him struggling in April. Is it an issue? Sure. Are they disappointed? Sure. But I think they are just continuing the course like every season when they start slow, hoping to right the ship soon. I don’t think they are looking to be rash by replacing him in April. I’m more concerned with Hunter Brown pitching a good game and not getting pulled in the first inning tonight, than what Abreu does. Especially if the other guys in that lineup can produce something.
Maybe so.
I’ll just leave you with this.
Hunter Brown has participated in 3 games….the first game against the Yankees he pitched 4 innings and gave up 0 ER. It was a very winnable game….he did not lose that game.
So now we are talking about 2 games in which Brown has been a detriment to his team winning.
Jose Abreu has played in 15 games and managed 4 hits in 49 AB’s with 1 RBI.
I know who has left a much larger impact on the Astros poor start.
Hunter brown plus the bullpen and some of those other starts. I think they can still win despite Abreu, right now. They can’t when the pitching doesn’t give them a chance.
It’s just astounding to me that any fan of the Astros would be good with leaving a free out in the lineup when there are other options, especially when scoring runs has been a big problem in all but one of their losses.
The Astros have to get better pitching, or they’re obviously not winning anything. But for a team that’s near the top in batting average to only be middle of the pack in runs scored, finding RBIs is a big deal. It’s not just Abreu, but he’s the glaring weakness - he’s not even putting the ball in play.
We spent most of last year wishing Dusty would give Maldonado more days off, and we’re right back to doing the same thing with Abreu. Last year he didn’t turn it around until he sat for a while to rest “a back issue.” It’s time to give that back some additional rest. There’s simply no reason to put him in the lineup.
If maybe Abreu came through more often with runners in scoring position. The pitchers would have more runs to work with and not have a little less stress on having to be perfect.
Abreu has lost bat speed He is hitting week popups and grounders and can’t pull ball anymore. It is going into his second year time to cut bait and try someone else, and Singleton who has been waived etc… is not the answer.
I’m telling ya… they be missing that Leadership of Maldy in Clubhouse!! .
Uuhh, gotta go, workers that are here need me.
And you lose bat speed you turn purely into a “guess” hitter….no bueno.

Playing bad players because you owe them a lot of money is duplicating your inefficiencies. I can’t believe either Brown or Espada think this is debatable.

I think Brown is the issue. We ate Maldonado’s failures all season last year. We’re eating Abreu’s now. What is the one constant?
Man, I don’t know. Brown seemed frustrated by Diaz not getting reps, but he could have just been playing to the crowd.
Espada is susceptible to the same mistakes that all managers make in that he assumes a veteran will turn it around in time. Maybe Abreu isn’t right physically, or maybe he’s just lost it. I can totally see Espada rolling with him based on his postseason last year, and that’s a mistake - he’s not that guy right now.
Maybe Brown and Espada are being overruled by Cranewell on Abreu’s PT.
Espada: “Hey, Dana. I need to talk to you.”
Dana: “Is it about our situation at first base?
Espada: “Yeah, so I was thinking…”(Dana motions his hand and interrupts Espada)
Dana: “Save it, Joe. Jeff Cranewell said if you even think of benching Abreu for an extended period time, go to eBay and order you a 2022 Topps baseball card set. Pull out one Jose Abreu baseball card and look at the back of that thing. Then you’ll understand why he plays every single day”
(Dana goes to leave Joe’s office but stops at the door and turns to Joe)
“You should play Singleton and Abreu together, Joe.”
End Scene
Pretty funny “Jeff Cranewell”
7, 8, and 9 hitters tonight…
Singleton
McCormick
Myers
At least Singleton seems to have a chance at getting a hit right now. Maybe he’ll luck into his first RBI tonight.
This is their coming out party. They have arrived!
3-2 count
2 outs
And he throws it out over the fat part of the plate. Maybe the franchise is too stupid to contend for a title.
How was that a HR, though?
NVM - apparently it hit the sign above and we couldn’t see that on TV. And the replay crew couldn’t see it, either, so they had to just go with the call on the field.
The way the ball kicked sideways, I tend to agree that’s what happened.
