Every year I talk a lot of baseball with my boys on the travel team….if I ask how many are Astros fans it is all but two or three.
There may be one or two Rangers fan and then there is always the kid that is a poser and says he’s a Yankees fan.

I hate T-shirt fans!
I’m convinced most fans of anyone outside Texas that are FROM Texas are T-shirt fans.
In Texas, though, you see college football T-shirt fans of Texas as well as A&M. I always tell them, ‘be a leader, not a follower, man!’
Besides, why would anyone want to root for a college that would never accept their application for admission?
I don’t have issues with the average guy that didn’t go to college and he’s and Aggie or Horn fan.
The ones I don’t care for are the people that did graduate from college at school X, Y, Z and are these “die hard “ horn fans and insinuate they actually went there.
True dat.
I grew up in a typical Tejano family of UT, Cowboys and Spurs fans.
But my brother, my mom and I just always sided with HOUSTON, mainly because our dearest relatives lived there.
Until I got to college, I had never been to Dallas and had been to Austin and SA just a small handful of times.
So, other than MY hometown and my mother’s hometown, the only place I had spent any significant amount of time in while growing up was Houston.
So, since they didn’t have pro sports in Brownsville or Del Rio, Texas, that left Houston as my only rooting area of choice!
I came to Houston when I was six to visit family. They took me to the see the Astros and bought me an orange Astros batting helmet. That orange helmet became legend in Stamps, Arkansas. My school bus would drop us off at the Rexall drug store and we would walk home. One day it was raining and my mom called Rexall to see if I’d popped up.
“He’s about a quarter mile from home, sugar.” said the lady to my mom. “I can see his orange helmet from here.”
Funk is the original John Olerud !
As a resident of Tennessee, I vote Nashville.
Tex-Mex, BBQ, and MLB are the things I probably miss the most about Texas. I am a diehard Astros fan, but at least when we lived in the Metroplex, we could go to Rangers games. Now, it’s just the occasional trip to Texas that allows me to go.
So, if the Jays want to move to Nashville, bring it on!
I think it depends on what MLB’s plans are once they hit 32 will dictate where the Jays go + 2 expansion teams. There are rumblings they might go like NBA or AAA and do East/West and if thats the case you have to balance out or you will got some strange divisions around Chicago.
Like if you went 4 groups of 8. We know the West is
And Central locks currently stands at
If you add another West team Rockies go Central and you only have room for White Sox or Brewers but not both. If you dont add another then Both Chicagos and Milwaukee would be together leaving room for +2 and Jays movement all in the East two divisions.
I’d like them to get the Tampa Rays.
Nashville w MLB would make those games an event.
They can build a proper tourist trap around it.
Latest Rays stadium deal fell through.
Usual telling each other off in the media.
Tampa a great baseball town because of Spring Training.
All the Toronto, Philly, Yanks, etc who move here won’t switch to Rays.
Go to Yanks/ Jays Spring Training & then buy a season ticket
for an AL East rivals in the Rays ?
My father in law has 2 season tickets.
'Stros @ Tampa in Mid May.
Looks good & should be filled till FL summer kicks in.
Yanks crowd not happy.
It appears the rule changes have made an impact on interest in the game. Revenues had a solid increase last year and attendance was the highest since 2017. That is actually impressive considering the regional tv platforms are still suppressing some viewership for fans that don’t want to fork over $100 a month for Fubo or Satellite.
I’m curious if Manfred would entertain expansion. The current economy is on shaky ground so it could be another 4-5 years before we see something happen. I also believe the west coast is toast on ever receiving another team. Portland is going the wrong direction in growth, and the city is heavily reliant on semiconductor sector for their economy. SLC and Nashville appear to be your best options.
Tampa’s new stadium deal fell through and the lease on Tropicana ends in 2028, so I think it’s inevitable Tampa is relocating.
The other team I feel could see move (if expansion is off the table) is Miami. TB to Nashville and Miami to SLC. Move Pittsburgh to the NL East, us back to NL central and Arizona to AL West.
Good post.
My only disagreement is that I’m used to the American League now.
Yeah, I prefer the American League. In fact, I was for it when they did it.
Just FYI - tonight’s game is only on AppleTV for anyone looking for baseball.
1962-2012 National League - 1 pennant
2013-2024 American League - 4 pennants,
2 WS championships
No contest.
Tampa should be kicked out of the country for how their fans have treated that great franchise
Who could have imagined that a huge retirement community would balk at paying for more billionaire welfare?
True……but next to Texas I rank Florida 2nd before Cali in the amount of quality youth players….you would think there would be enough families interested.
BTW, Espada kept the same lineup two entire days in a row!
Brown is hitting triple digits tonight. Worked over Soto beautifully.
Our new 2B - jeez, dude. Catch the ball.
