Bill Murphy, one of the Astros pitching coaches, is leaving for Pittsburgh.
Should the Astros be looking for a replacement within the organization or go get someone like Strom who has been around awhile?
Strom ain’t coming back unless they threw a TON of money at him….he is 77 years old.
If there is a guy in the system that really knows his sh-t and has a proven record of guys improving, then sure I’m cool with it.
Otherwise you poach a really good coach from a crap team….or whoever is considered the top assistant pitching coach.
They’re trying hard to get another west coast location, aren’t they. I don’t know. Las Vegas seems like a better location. Travel, better airport, more amenities. And there are a lot of Dodgers fans that would give you an additional 2-3k casuals every game. They’re close to exactly the same size.
San Jose gets you back in the bay area and has a great population to pull from.

I’m going to take you kids back. Way back to a simpler time. A time of mom and apple pie and playing backgammon with your drunk uncle during the holidays.
When Jessie Barfield was with the Yankees the Houston media became obsessed with the idea that he was coming to Houston. This lasted the better part of two seasons. It was a mental pathology. I half expect to wake up now every so often and hear we finally signed him.
This Cease stuff reminds me of that. The mythical golden goose levitating just outside the bedroom window. I hope they make good moves. And we need a couple of starters and a couple of lock-down guys in the pen. But they can’t ignore CF and they need to have a long range plan for 1B too.

And I coached his younger son Jeremy for a season….had the talent to be a big leaguer.

‘86 was such a waste of an extraordinary pitching staff. Too bad we were in the bottom five in the league in runs scored and HRs, and below league average in every major offensive category.
Adding someone like a Kirk Gibson, Bob Horner, or Dale Murphy would have been massive at the deadline. McMullen was a good owner but he screwed the pooch by not adding pop to the lineup in ‘86.
