Dana can get me out of this pessimistic state by just making three good moves. Just three moves. I don’t want to hear things in spring training like, “we’re just getting guys healthy”, or “this is a winning roster” or “we’re just a piece away.”
This staff fully healthy wasn’t gonna beat that Dodgers staff. I don’t think. They had three starters that could throw a no-hitter on the right night. If they got Cease I’d be happy but not comfortable (satisfied). Can Walker have a breakout next year? Do they move Dubon and Jake for a lockdown CF? Do they dare weakening the farm even more to improve tge pen? Is there one guy in the minors that could step up and be a major impact player? You know we’re gonna have injuries every year.
Man, when you’re depleted in the minors it sure complicates things with an old roster. I’m glad it’s Dana and not me. Oh well, they’ll have cash to play with.
Last big question: do they commit to Cam as a starter?
Don’t look now but Alonso and Bellinger are back on the open market.
Zach Cole needs to be in CF with Cam in RF.
These guys will put up really good numbers this next year if they are penciled in for 150+ games.
I would deal Paredes for a SP….he has a ton of value as he is still under control a couple of more years.
Walker’s last 1/3 of the season was All-Star level….lets hope he can put a full season together.
And we need at least two stud RP’s….and don’t dick around with Pearson as a starter……put in in the pen and you have a triple digit guy….Same with Brito.
I don’t think I could trade Paredes. He’s one of the few guys on the roster who produces and who isn’t soft and/or fragile.
Exactly….which is your most valuable trade piece.
An infielder has to go….Altuve is coming back to 2b.
You could trade Pena in the same way you traded Tucker….Pena would get you a hall for sure….Corea goes back to SS and Paredes at 3b….
Those are your two options……Correa is not going anywhere and people that keep saying “trade Walker” just don’t get it.
He is 35 years old and is owed some serious money….if you find a partner they are gonna want you to pay at least 1/2 his salary….and you will get one average prospect and maybe a lotto.
I think there is a decent shot that CW improves next year….despite being 35 the bat has not really slowed down and his last 1/3 of the season proves he is still capable.
To me, it has to be Paredes or Pena.
I just think the value lost in moving him will not be replaced. They can get good players back, but those are just numbers.
I think they’re better off taking a loss on bad Walker trade - sometimes you sell underperforming stocks at a discount to invest in something with more potential rather than selling the good ones to take a profit.
Usually we agree on most moves….not this one which is okay.
BTW, not sure how Funk is gonna take the news when he finds out Chas was outrighted….

Shota Imanaga on a three year deal would be a nice starter in the middle of the rotation.
I’m just saying that getting rid of that guy is super-concerning after watching our collection of glass and paper tigers who can’t play on a sore ankle. I’m not sold on the GM being able to take advantage of his market value, either.
I agree that he’ll bring way more than Walker in terms of return players. I’m not convinced that this will make the team better.
Don’t forget….JP only played 125 games himself….other than Tuve and Paredes I think this team is filled with guys that have no pain tolerance……does a change in the medical staff fix that?
JP has two years left before free agency……his value is at an all-time high….is he even capable of doing what he did last year over 150+ games? I don’t know….but if he does, then he will price him out of what Crane will pay……if he doesn’t. And regresses back to a slightly above average SS….well, then we did not take advantage of his trade value….we should do what we did with Tucker….except the return will be 2 or 3 times as good.
Pedro Leon - another “can’t miss” that did.
He’ll probably go to some other org and be an All Star now.
I’m shocked Chas made it this long. He had a decent four months at one time but other than that he’s been squatting to pi#%.
I’ve always thought Pena would be a great trade piece, much better than Dubon and Myers together. But if you traded Myers+1 you’d probably need at least a back up outfielder back. Knowing Dana he’ll wait until 27’ to trade one of his fifteen infielddrs.
I’m a big Paredes fan so I would hate to lose him. Great attitude. Great bat. Great teammate. I have no confidence Walker will improve. Great power to all fields. But that’s our nexus at 1b. His strikeouts are mystifying. He just looks denser that axle on a dump truck on curveballs sometimes.
I’m fine with Zach Cole in CF and Cam in RF….
Cam is going to be much better this year and hit for more power…. And Cole has some balls……he’s going to be good if Espada doesn’t bench him after a couple 0-4’s.
I had forgotten about that. This is one of the really good changes that MLB has made.
Go HS with the first pick they have and then best college bat with this pick.
This is a huge improvement!
Completely different state of mind……Padres were #1 in batting two years ago and 7th this past year.
We were only able to get him because San Diego is bringing in a new manager who will bring in his own guys.
