Payroll size and payroll flexibility are two different things. Dana Brown inherited one of the league’s highest payrolls, but much of it was already committed to deals he didn’t make. That’s not the same as having the freedom to build the roster however he wants.
I’m well aware.
And none of that forced him to sign Imai or Burrows. He had some challenges to start, and he’s squandered much of the financial flexibility he had by bad signings. I’m sure Crane is more involved in those decisions than he probably should be. Brown’s track record on free agent signings doesn’t show any indication of being better than what he “inherited.”
I think that he will actually hand the team over to his son, Jared Crane, when he retires.
If nothing else, Season 5 of Yellowstone was a fantastic infomercial for the value of proper estate planning. Hopefully the Astros are set up to minimize the tax hit. That 40% is a doozy.
Alvarez is carrying the Astros on his back.
OK, I’m being somewhat hyperbolic, but……
it’s not far from the truth. ![]()
All I know is the Stros are 1 game back from .500 and 2 games back from 1st place…
No owner is blowing that up…
Let’s get hot fellas!
