Seriously, if Correa was “much faster,” you would think he would have far more than SEVEN stolen bases over the last decade.
The “fat and overweight” Altuve had twice that many in the last two seasons.
That stronger arm would really come in handy when he’s chasing down balls in the gap that a real OF would have caught.
Many of us have presented “evidence” regarding why this is a terrible idea. All you have is “because he can hit and has a strong arm and could get hurt somewhere else.” Just stop already.
Why do we want Correa playing OF? I’m not being facetious. I’m asking strategically. He’s a player in decline and we already have ample OF personnel playing down to that level. Is it to make use of his salary? That would be more of the same for this org. Is it for the feelz? This I could understand if you were writing off the season.
I don’t have anything against you, CalCoog. And I love Carlos. In my non-managerial eyes I think it doesn’t improve the roster.
The initial suggestion was “to get more offense from that position.” It seems like a fantasy baseball approach more than one rooted in any kind of actual personnel strategy.
Correa himself has said that his move to 3B was at least partly for self-preservation, since SS was physically demanding and he’s battled plantar fasciitis and back trouble for years. I don’t expect that a broken ankle will help those 32 year old feet move even faster so that they can cover ground shagging flies all spring to try to learn a position he’s never played.
If the dude was 10 years younger, then maybe this is a discussion. There would only be a handful of older OF in the league, and all of them have played their entire careers there. Even Mike Trout will be playing less OF next year to reduce wear-and-tear, lower injury risks, and make room for better defenders.

I plan on this being my last comment on moving Carlos Correa to outfield.
I will start by saying I am a fan of Altuve and appreciate everything he has done for the stros and hope he is on the team next year.

Altuve has slowed down. Baseball writers consider him a defensive liability. He is slow fielding(moving laterally). His speed, quickness, and bat speed(start of swing) has gone down.
Why has he slowed down? Age(36), injuries, and weight?

According to the Houston Astros website Altuve is 5’6" and weighs 167lbs.
Are you aware that according to BMI that is overweight? Basic standard BMI his weight should be between 118-154! Of course BMI is an outline and does not include % of muscle and % of body fat. Athletes often would have more weight because of % of muscle

Apparently many MLB players official heights have gone down because of the ABS system this year.
Charles Barkley listed height was 6-7 when he played in the NBA… his real height is 6’ 41/2."
Warren Moon height was listed has 6’3" in the old Houston Oilers Media Guides( I should know I owned several) his real height was under 6’1" according to several fans who I met who met him in Houston.
Traditionally the NBA, NFL, and MLB did not have any rules stating that the old media guides had to be accurate has far has height and weight were concern(including more recently official websites) … supposedly the pro leagues are enforcing more accuracy past 5 years.

I believe he is over weight. If he is not over weight why has he slowed down so much over his fielding?

I want the best hitters to be playing. Astros had problems with lack of consistant hitting(many HR’s nobody on base). Most starters batted less than 250. Gold or dust.

What harm would it be to try it? Correa believes he will make a full recovery from his injury.
Why not have him practice lf in the spring training and play him 15 games in the OF(i believe primarily lf). What harm can it be to try it?
I am aware this is a unpopular opinion but I hope Joe Espada returns.
I do not blame him for last year…inconsistent hitting, injuries and inconsistent starting pitching.

this thread is titled, “Houston astros Baseball and MLB Discussions”; it does not say astros only; I am posting on the MLB as I like baseball and am watching the playoff games. seems other MLB baseball fans would have takes on the playoffs as part of the MLB discussion.

It is fair to say that this string is not limited to Astros baseball.
But it is strange that you keep saying that Altuve was involved when even people on his own team have said that he rejected participation.
There may be a good number of people out there that incorrectly believe that he was involved and boo him on that basis.
But they just show their ignorance when they do.
Doesn’t make sense to try and justify their ignorance.
