When I listen to 610 afternoon drive time, it sounds like 610 went for the cheapest talent available. Stoerner is a former journeyman backup QB and Huguley just is not that good. Not a fan of the producer either, who inserts quick sound bites, (“hold on Show!”), for what, I am still trying to figure out.
The first Houston sports talk radio host I can remember was KTRH’s Bob Allen, early in Bob’s career. Then there was KTRH’s Jerry Trupiano, with former Oilers GM John Breen on Mondays, the day after the Oilers played. This predates KILT AM turning to all sports. Then there was a number of hosts at primarily AM 610 and 740, some better than others.
Yeah, 610 is really bad, especially Stoerner. I can’t listen.
I CANNOT stand the voice and tone of Adam Wexler. I can’t change the station fast enough when I hear him.
Yes, he did. I think he was a Dr. too.
Yeah, I don’t understand the “hold on show” bit either. And what makes this guy think he’s “The Show.” He doesn’t seem that great to me! Ha Very average as is good ol’ boy Stoerner.
Wexler has the same problem as Palillo. Both are very knowledgeable in sports but have a condescending, know it all attitude. That may appeal to some people but is a turnoff for me.
My favorite morning show was on 610 with Andre Ware and Mark Vandameer. I really enjoyed that. Now i listen to Salisbury on my way to work. He seems like a pretty good guy. He has alot of insight. Otherwise im listening to the bunch that do the podcasts. Ainsworth is informative. The coaches shows are on podcasts as well.
Bingo.
Wexler is so condescending to Clanton I can’t listen more than five minutes.
Matt Thomas is a good dude but his show with
Sh*tbird Ross has turned into too much nonsense with virtually no sports talk….
I wouldn’t put Palillio and Wexler in same category. Palillo knew it all and sounded confident. Wexler just comes across as a douche with his intonation and droning on and on about a subject
This thread has successfully sussed out who all the boomers are.

think he passed away
no he didn’t
I hope he didn’t. He had some good calls even if they did have a negative tone to them.
If I had my preference, I’d go with Payne and Pendergast on 610 in the morning. They’re pretty good and don’t come across as know-it-alls.
who in the hell wants to talk to Stoerner?
I listen to 790 exclusively, but only when I’m in the car. I love the morning show and Matt’s show. I can’t stand the 10:00 show. I tolerate Adam and Adam, but I have a bigger problem with Clanton. He’s just a fan boy that doesn’t add much value.
I haven’t listened to Clanton in years. He just annoys me too much. I liked Matt Jackson. Too bad he was run off the air.
I turn Matt off when he starts making “tongue in cheek” remarks about the University of Houston calling us “The Harvard of the South” and other cringe things like that.
It comes off as “Cougar High” level insulting and when you couple that with the fact he brags how his children attended OTHER colleges (proof is in the pudding)…you can tell he really isn’t great Alum to have on our side.
I can only take so much when he tries to “defend” UH. Just makes us look really amateurish.

Can’t believe AM radio is still even a thing.
The frequencies are terrible quality and the FM spectrum has so many more channels.
Personally, I haven’t listened to terrestrial radio in 15 years.
XM and streaming off phone are killing radio.
Car manufacturers are following Tesla’s lead and not even including AM radios. Like cassette and CDs in cars.
This
Not sure I could find AM on my car radio.
When Joel Bushbaum passed so did any interest I had in talk radio, RIP
I think they are building a lot of new cars now without AM/FM radio and CD players. Satellite radio is where it is at.
Sucks when you want to listen to the post-game show after a basketball game. Even if you can find the game on satellite, they don’t usually stay on through the presser.
HD FM is the best in terms of sound quality, but signal strength is a problem.
I don’t think satellite is killing off local radio anytime soon, unless they make it free and/or pick up local broadcasts like TV. I’ve had satellite for almost 20 years, but there’s room for both, especially as satellite continues to ratchet up the price.
