Houston's Cumbie Has Vintage Start | D1Baseball.com

We’ll see if this start gets the junior lefty back on track for good the rest of the season. After all, the Cougars must finish the regular season on a torrid pace to get back into the at-large discussion with an RPI in the triple digits.

Tonight seemed like a step forward, though. It was vintage Cumbie when the Cougars needed him the most.

“Cumbie was really good, I thought. When he’s rocking and rolling and gets into a groove like that, he can control the ball all around the strike zone and he’s everywhere but the middle of the plate. That’s what he did tonight,” Whitting said. “He located on the outside part of the zone and really changed speeds on them, and he did it against a very good offensive team. That’s as good of an offensive team as we’ve faced all-season long.”
