If fired, what is the future for Major Applewhite?

We are going to send him to Las Vegas under the protection of Don Francesco.

I understand he will be Vince Young’s personal assistant.

Most likely Mack at UNC or CTH at UT. He can also get out of coaching if he wants, he’ll be successful in some endeavor.

Well, think of it as a descending asymptotic curve approaching ZERO in about 12 picoseconds…

So I guess I care a very small amount !!!

Scratch that…I DO NOT care !

Naw Brah…not me!

Agreed. Good guy. Let’s not celebrate this part of it. He’s been a great ambassador of the program. Much like Levine he just might not be the guy.

Major was not a good ambassador for the program.

That is half the reason why people want him gone.

Jacketgate alone proves him unworthy of the position.

Jacketgate? What a totally ridiculous statement…Ed was not supposed to have the jacket on and then argued with someone else about taking it off. Applewhite simply told him to take off the jacket like the adult said. I think Ed later apologized.
And yes Applewhite was a good ambassador for UH…If he had a problem, at least in my opinion, was that he was too soft on the players. Herman had that fire and dogged the players all the time, especially in practice and that toughness showed on the field…

Nope. He was a class act. Just because he wasn’t as vocal as Herman doesn’t mean he wasn’t a good ambassador of the school. He had dignity and my respect. He never embarrassed the university.

“Jacketgate” was a complete joke. And That is mostly on Oliver’s gross overreaction. Rules are rules. Don’t enforce rules and other players notice and resent. Maybe Oliver shouldn’t have tried to big time the equipment staff. Show some humility.

You can be a good ambassador and still not quite be the right head coach. See Levine. Both were quality guys in their position. Moving on says absolutely zero about him as an ambassador to the school.

No. The Jacket rule itself is a cruel rule. Depriving a student (they are still students) from being comfortable just because of their playing status is cruel.

If it was a lower echelons staffer that told the kid (Oliver, a kid in my book) to take it off, then it is still on the coach.

A man with a shrewd of decency would have walked over and over ruled the equipment guy.

And don’t try and tell me that there is not enough to go around. That is on the coaching staff and the leader too.

So yes, I call it “Jacketgate”

Then he opens up his mouth to the youngster, Embarrassing him on national tv and more importantly in front of his teammates and student body…shame on him.

He should have hugged him, not yelled at him.

The jacket incident made UH look sophomoric in the eyes of the media and general public. If we don’t have enough jackets for all the players, then lets start a Go Fund Me and get this done. I would be pleased to donate funds for a player’s jacket. In hindsight, it was an incident that should have never happen and I hope something like this never happens again.

LOL…yeah, I bet Ed doesn’t have any UH jackets to wear when it is cold and he is not on the football field…would you have worn a jacket to that game? That’s what I figured…Applewhite did the right thing and in the process was taking up for his staff member…
I don’t know about you, but I always liked it when a boss took up for me when I was trying to get something done and someone wanted to argue…

Jacketgate. Fans like this are why we are firing a coach that just went 8-5, seemingly for a coach that just went 8-4 in 2018 and 7-6 in 2017. Give me a freaking break. Time to step away from this garbage.

Katie, you summed it up. In case he is indeed let go a $M’s buy out should silence any concern(s)

Fans have nothing to do with firing a bad HC. Applewhite fired himself with his own body of work while the HC @ UH. He and he alone is responsible for his dismissal if it does actually come to that.

Losing 70 to 14 to Army gets you fired. Sorry Major you just blew a season with one of the best dlinemen UH has ever had. Thanks for whipping Sumlin though.

Hahaha. You do realize the players have plenty of cold weather gear. Oliver could easily have put something else on. Those jackets were for players in the game.

Embarrassed the player? Are you kidding?

Let’s not compare records without noting the difference in schedules.

I think it is more the way we lost, rather than the fact we lost.

He’s a P5 coach with access to P5 recruits. So yes, he plays a P5 schedule.
