And Sam Houston was the only southern governor with the integrity and common sense to oppose joining the Confederacy, realizing it would be a disastrous decision. And he was removed from office because of it. He was right, though.
Grayhounds are really quick. And whatâs the matter with the âHouston Houndsâ?? Mascot with humongous floppy ears?
I always liked the UH âMad Dogâ defense.

And those few years where I was known as âThe Guard Dogâ for barking at the other team wouldâve made a lot more sense, too!
UH used to give a weekly Mad Dog award on defense.

By the way, the first letter sweaters awarded to his Houston Junior College baseball team were purple and white, 1927 maybe 1928. Iâd have to look up my notes.
Houston Oilers would have been cool.
I thought they were royal blue and white? Or were the sweaters not in the team color for some reason?
