If you could replace the Rice game

SMU played HCU in nonconference last year along with just about the weakest schedule the ACC could have given them, and they still got in….coming into Selection Sunday they had zero wins over ranked teams….

I’d rather play Rice than Georgia Southern, Southern, Texas Southern, (and most other Southerns except like Southern California) PVAMU and all other HBCUs and FCS teams. Playing Rice is much more compelling and competitive than playing HBCUs and FCS schools. Yes, HBCUs have more entertaining bands but they perform for like 10 minutes versus wanting to watch a more competitive game for 3 hours. It’s a rare intracity rivalry that’s cool to read about when this type of rivalry is discussed. I know it’s hard to call it a one when it’s so lopsided, but it is a still one because of the proximity of the schools and there is trophy on the line. Plus it’s a convenient road game for our fans.

Please no more playing FCS teams.

Keep the Owls

Back in '71, '72, '73 we opened v. Rice

In '74 & '75 Rice was our 2nd game

In '76 & '77 we were in the SWC and the game moved to Thanksgiving

Edit the year in this URL to see historical schedules

Ws are far more important at this stage than our SOS. Don’t be delusional.

When we would play Rice at the end of the season, it was terrible because inevitably one or the other wasn’t even bowl eligible so the fans had given up, resulted in low attendances. Moved to start of season when both teams still had hope. Plus it was thanksgiving weekend which was hard for fickle fans also.

They also played BYU and TCU in the non-conference which is pretty solid

The Georgia Southern series was scheduled several years before Coach Fritz was hired. I am just glad that we got rid of the four game home and home series with New Mexico State.

Playing both Sam Houston and Oklahoma on the same day is going to be a tough one.

I kid, I kid. FBS schedules needs to update their data.

Texas State. Rising program, but still a winnable game. I also greatly enjoyed the last UH roadie to San Marcos. Those kids have so much fun there.
