Is Elon Musk losing his mind?

More and more corporations and universities are getting rid of DEI departments entirely. Where I work is a global company, and the amount of DEI/ESG initiatives were quite insane during COVID-years, but they have quietly become less frequent.

That being said, I think DEI is a great concept myself, but it is being implemented very poorly.

The entire purpose of DEI is to help underserved and/or underprivileged demographics get into positions that they would normally not be able to obtain due to historically prejudice/racist policies. The reason this is a problem is because youā€™re putting unqualified people in potentially balance sheet-shifting positions

Personally, I believe DEI should be implemented at the adolescent stage rather than the top, but thatā€™s a different discussion. What allows the majority demographic to obtain these positions really starts from Pre-K upwards. Getting more minority groups into elite elementary schools and beyond for example. Thatā€™s how change can really be made so that kids can grow up with demographics less fortunate than them

Hang in there bud. Universities getting rid of DEI departments is being pushed legislatively like we have in Texas. They didnā€™t just decide it was a waste. They were forced to drop them.

As far as corporations dropping it, your company hasnā€™t dropped dei it has just adopted a less visible strategy right?

My company has expanded our dei efforts. They recently, finally, added a remote worker associate resource group (arg), and are doing more outreach on mentoring either being mentored or being a mentor through their dei component.

Now thatā€™s just two companies.

But really this article backs up what Iā€™m seeing.

@FunkMasterMilluns saw this article today that relates to your assertion about Elonā€™s reasoning to sue.

Shows how someone can be too rich for their own good. Think of everything else that money could do.

Iā€™m not eveen sure it looks like him. It looks like it has glasses and a moustache in this picture.

They shaved Teddy Roseveltā€™s mustache, botoxed his jowls, and gave him flounder eyes.

My friend just posted this from his vacation in Stockholm.

Uncanny. Used without his permission.

A little older article, but talks about exactly what we were discussing. There are newer articles that are similar through the Google, but behind a paywall. This lays it out pretty plain. And this was before he went anti-semitic.

Great article to post. History kinda repeating itself. How strange is that ? So many similarities there.

From the articleā€¦

Musk, too, has developed warm relations with some of the most despicable people of his era. Since buying Twitter, he has invited Nazis back to the platform, where he has also engaged in friendly banter with Vladimir Putinā€™s top allies. (ā€œEpic thread!!ā€ he recently tweeted in response to former Russian Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedevā€™s New Yearā€™s predictions, which included a civil war breaking out in the U.S.) A few months ago Musk proposed a ā€œpeaceā€ plan for the war in Ukraine that received praise from the Kremlin but condemnation from virtually everyone else. Like many on the far right, his disdain for Dr. Anthony Fauci seems to border on obsession.

I donā€™t understand the Ford comparisons (in the context of the article) largely because this article highlights antisemitism by Ford during a time when racism against black people was socially acceptable across party lines.

Some of the biggest banks that still exist today, such as Chase Bank, have ties to slavery. Modern insurance companies insured slaves. After slavery was abolished, black people even through the mid-late 1900s didnā€™t have access to institutional resources. Yet none of those corporations payed a dime in reparations.

Thereā€™s just tons of hypocrisy in that article that is obviously skipped over for a clear anti-Musk narrative.

I donā€™t agree or support the things Musk says on X, but the picking and choosing just to build a narrative is just dumb here in my opinion.

Gonna get my Starlink here pretty soon. You know, heā€™s really a dumb basā€”- providing earth radius internet, flying rockets into space and landing them again, not to mention Tesla.
The $52k a year woke stiffs from the politics board are a prime example of the people heā€™s trolling. Rushing to the company bathroom 8 times a day to post something on reddit and coping with generic serotonin-uptake inhibitors (probably from China.)

I donā€™t understand how the acceptability of anti black racism makes a difference in the comparison really. Weā€™re looking at two automotive pioneers who both have been responsible for spreading antisemitism. Thatā€™s the parallel. What was acceptable bigotry by society then or now is not material to the comparison anymore than comparing Fords automotive innovations to Musks considering the advances in technology over time.

Iā€™m not saying that racism against black people (or anyone else) is unimportant or that the social acceptability of it is unimportant, it just doesnā€™t make a difference in the comparison.

Keep in mind that the social acceptability of antisemitism was also different in Fords time. There was still plenty of discrimination against Jews in employment, housing, etc. that isnā€™t a concern now (at least until Oct 7) compared to Fords time.

What a weird fantasy you have.

Your attempt at trolling RT, when he admits his own bias while pointing out yours, is just laughable. It is all bluster and zero substance.

No one said he was dumb. Thatā€™s all one big strawman.

Sad flex.

Irony.

Musk can be a jerk and even a bit evil while still having contributed a whole bunch to our culture and economy. William Shockley, inventor of the transistor, wasnā€™t a great guy. Got heavy into eugenics, became a big-time racist.

Musk is maybe nuts, maybe evil, maybe a bit of both. With that much money he can do anything he wants while alive. It doesnā€™t detract from what heā€™s ushered in via Tesla and Twitter and SpaceX.
