July 1st marks the start of a new conference year. This past year, UH and BYU, UCF, and Cincinnati all received 100% conference payments.
Looking back in the past year, what was the most memorable event for UH? I will throw out two obvious ones. Beating LSU in the Texas Bowl, and getting Keisean Henderson to commit to UH.
Getting the conference payout this week. Our first full P4 payout in 31 years !!!
I remember after Baylor took Briles, someone pointed out we were getting $2.5mm a year from our conference (AAC?) and Baylor was getting $25mm a year! That’s why we lost successful coach after coach: Briles, Sumlin, Herman.
Certainly up there with significant events was signing transfer QB Connor Weigman. The team seems to be rallying around Connor and he is serving as a great mentor to QB Keisean Henderson.
On a lesser note, getting a fresh face leading the softball team also. Under the radar to most UH fans, but not to long time softball followers, the overhaul was critical to a once proud program.
This isn’t the answer to your question. But maybe an answer to an expanded version.
But beating LSU was a great football moment. My favorite Houston big 12 football moment is the Hail Mary to beat WVU in the first big 12 game. So good.
What was BYU’s best moment this year? The best was signing Dybantsa. Worst were missing the CFP playoffs and Richie Saunders injury. I’d rather hear from a BYU expert.
For me, maybe the most enjoyable was watching Bear Bachmeier go from timid freshman to leading the cougs to a win vs Georgia Tech in the Pop Tart bowl without his Big 12 offensive player of the year in LJ Martin.
