Last of the freedom days for kids grow up as kids

Gould Park in Dobbs Ferry, N.Y. Played wiffle ball, stoop ball, and stick ball all day. When not playing those games, run up to the wade pool and thereafter try not to break my neck on the monkey bars. Later on, little league and pony games against other towns, when not taking the train to catch a Yankees game.

We all know what makes children children is to let them explore. This is what nature intended. Six years ago when children were confined it destroyed a key period in their life’s development. We all know how children are on tiktok and other media…That is their clear response on wanting to explore…Unfortunately it went from real to a make believe digital world. Nothing beats the experience of children being outside. Children obesity and children depression is through the roof. Actions have consequences.

From AI:

By almost every objective measure of public safety, it is significantly safer today than it was in the 1980s. While public perception often suggests otherwise due to the 24-hour news cycle and social media, historical data from the FBI and other researchers show a dramatic long-term decline in nearly all categories of risk.

Key Safety Metrics

  1. Violent and Property Crime
In the United States, violent crime peaked in the late 1980s and early 1990s. Since then, rates have fallen significantly
Homicide: The homicide rate has approximately halved since its peak. Projections for 2026 suggest the 2025 homicide rate could be among the lowest since 1900.
Robbery & Assault: Robbery rates have dropped by nearly 80%, and aggravated assaults have decreased by roughly 40% compared to 1980s levels.
Property Crime: Rates for burglary and larceny have fallen by 60% in the last 30 years.

  2. Health and Life Expectancy
Child Safety: Infant mortality is approximately half of what it was in 1980. Modern laws regarding child seats and safer consumer products have also contributed to a sharp decline in accidental deaths among children.
Transportation: Automobile fatalities have fallen significantly despite more drivers being on the road, thanks to advancements like airbags, electronic stability control, and improved tire technology.

I’ve been convinced that media is responsible for all the scared parents.

It is safer today but the media makes it seem like it’s not. Everything is about clicks and it’s all sensationalized for money. The media is a big problem in our country for a number of things. Not many if any actually just report facts. Everyone has to add their opinions and people go to their preferred sources for confirmation bias.

When i was kid, i would head outside to play and the only thing my parents would say is “be home before it gets dark”
The 80s were awesome

Growing up I broke a collar bone, hand, arm, stepped on glass, had several situations with sprained ankles, and stitches/staples. Rough times.

Numerous ones as well. My stupidest was stepping on the tines of a rake to see if it would knock you out like it would in the cartoons. It did. Truly amazing how fast that handle came up!
