If we DO build a new arena, should it be downtown, or in a suburb like Sugar Land or Katy?
Iām thinking it would probably be in one of the suburbs. I canāt see two arenas of similar size in competition with each other in the inner city. I Selfishly would vote for Katy/Cypress area.

It would be TOO DAMN KEWLā¦if Houstonās new team played in Katy where I live.

Kill two birds with one stone. Put it in the Cypress area and then the Austonianās could still come to the games and be there in one and a half hours.

Why the F would anyone want it in Katy or Sewageland? Just play in the city the jersey says. It means something to drive to Houston for a game. You put it in one of these bourgeoise suburbs and people from Spring or east side have a two hour round trip at 6pm when you factor parking.

And yes I think Anaheim should be Anaheim. Not the stupid LA Angels

Truth be told, much of Houstonās NHL fan base would likely be in the Burbs.
I know but they are in the burbs. Not one burb.
Itās more righteous to have teams in the actual city. Why should people in one burb have to drive an hour in the evening rush to another burb past the damn city the team is named after?
Unless you build it in Rockdale or Dime Box. That would be cool as Hell.

I donāt think itās a good idea to put them in a suburb either, but the reality is that the NHL wants an NHL specific arena for the team. I donāt think would approve of the Toyota Center. And besides, if Mr. Fertitta isnāt the owner, the hockey team would likely be treated as second class citizens.

If they built it in Katy or way or up in Woodlands etcā¦ Coming from Pearland or Clear Lake area would be a complete pain. I would prefer downtown area or even around NRG(Reliant area).
But Like Iāve been saying forever I will believe it when I see it.

But seriously, if the city of Houston is the marquee of the franchise then surely you could find a few acres inside the loop to drop a rink.
Of course Houstonians might vote it down under the pretense that the money be better spent on a Taylor Swift theme park or a giant 50 acre restaurant.

Iāll definitely switch my hockey loyalty from Ovi and the Washington Caps to any Houston NHL franchise that comes along.
Building stadiums and other sports venues outside the city limits appears to be a current trend.
See the future stadiums being built for the Chicago Bears and Cleveland Browns for reference.

And now the plot DEEPENS.
In addition to a possible NHL franchise, an ECHL franchise is apparently also on its way to town.
An 8000 seat arena near the Woodlands will be built to accommodate it by 2028.

As far as Iām concerned, we canāt get too much hockey. Now, with all the rinks that are being built, letās get an NCAA hockey team at UH.
