Our own law school head will now be front and center in deciding how legal education should progress nationally.
I went on the website. The AALS does not decide anything. They give an opinion, nothing more.
Their opinion is influential in law schools.
Don’t let anybody tell you any differently.
Fine but don’t write “front and center in deciding how…” By writing so you enter into the forbidden zone…
If you think that AALS opinions don’t influence the way that law school Deans make decisions, putting our own Dean front and center in that regard, then all I have to say is….you’ve got a thing or two to learn about legal academia.
I am sure they can try to mae their voice heard but again it has to be done in a …Not entering the forbidden zone.
As I said, you have a lot to learn.
Oh yeah?
No, but my law school classmate Stacey Tovino is now a full professor at the University of Oklahoma law school, and she attends an annual AALS conference.
It’s a BIG deal, and the AALS is very influential in legal education.
I always thought “Law Center” was an odd name for a law school. More like a placeholder when the Bates name came down.
Are they waiting for a mega-donor to come forward for naming rights.
Used to be Bates College of Law.
Changed to the Law Center the early 80s.
Georgetown’s law school is also called “Law Center.”
Have we ever had a Member on this board before? I see it is a three year term.
Not that I recall.
Why did they change the name? Curious.
Quote: In 1982, the Bates College of Law was changed to the University of Houston Law Center, and one of the law buildings was renamed the Bates Law Building. The name change was intended to reflect the broader mission the school would embrace in the years to come – maintaining the core principle of training lawyers, but specializing in fields like international law, health law, environmental law and intellectual property law.
Thanks
that is the most mealymouth press release that only a lawyer Dean can come up with.
It had to be another reason that likely involved money
Believe me if a lawyer named Adams came up with enough money they would throw your name on that building.
someone someday will come up with enough money and it will happen. The school be renamed they very well Leave Law Center up, but rest assured There is a price for everything.
I would imagine it would probably be $150 million or North to get there.
Here’s a nice quote from UHLaw’s post.
As the Law Center turns 75 and enters a new facility, Baynes believes that while the school has made a multitude of accomplishments and progress, some things have not changed.
“The school remains very much the same,” Baynes said. “We have the same values. We have the same interests and want to be the best we can be. This law school makes a difference in changing students’ lives, and it has done this since its inception 75 years ago.
